I have a TRD Sport with the “donut” spare. On a ling trip I want to be able to continue after a flat and not deal with driving 50 MPH and finding a tire replacement/repair on the road. Can I put a full size 18 inch tire to match my OEM tires on this rim. Also open to other cost effective full size spare options.

I don’t believe the sport should be too much different if at all than my TRD OR. I put a spare to match my larger 285/70/R17. I believe I read that that’s about as large of a tire as you can go, but that’s essentially a 34 inch tire underneath there.

Check the size of your spare, on my sport it came with a 17 inch not a 18… very annoying

yeah , i just had a bad experience with a donut wheel myself
damn near dangerous driving home after a flat in the rain , fishtailing & 3 wheel drifting were not fun all ....stock tires drove right to tire shop replaced all , use one stock wheel & tire as my spare
u can get a full sized wheel under the truck , got Methods & bigger tires 4 the truck

Exactly Slappy, I’m concerned with a flat in a 4WD situation such as at the slopes or just a snowy day and essentially my wife’s SUV will have better traction than I will with that donut.

By putting a full size spare wouldn’t the bed sag a bit maybe even making the truck look leveled

not noticable at all on mine but that alloy spare wheel was almost as heavy. I was surprised on how beefy that wheel was , way more than any steel donut wheel i've ever seen & the tire looked like near bald motorcycle tire lol

Update, finally got around to finishing this. Found a stock TRD Sport 18 inch wheel on ebay for $175 including shipping that was in perfect condition. Added a stock size 265 65/R18 tire, I got a new Cooper Discoverer SRX blem that looked close to the stock Michelins tread mounted and balanced for $140. This setup was close in weight to the donut spare so weight is not a problem, and it fit in the spare location easily. About the same amount of tire shows below the bumper as did with the spare donut so loss of clearance not a concern either. Project worked out perfectly and highly recommended if you want a full size spare.

Curious if you had to modify any of the mounting hardware under the bed for the spare or was it was just a simple swap of stock spare for the new tire/rim?

Simple swap, it fit perfectly with existing hardware. I am guessing it’s made to accommodate a full size rim and tire if you ever got a flat and had to use the donut. I’m vey happy with the outcome.

I installed a full size tire 265/70r17 BFG TRAIL-TERRAIN T/A onto the steel rim the the temporary Goodyear was on. It fit perfectly underneath for me.

I was disappointed that the TRD Sport came with 18” wheels but a 17” spare rim. WTF. I wish I could have used the spare rim. Great that it will work for you all with 17” wheels.
