It actually blows my mind that the Ranger and Gladiator may be the only PHEV pickups on the market in 2025. The race toward full-electric is obviously premature, so I think Toyota is really dropping the ball here. The standard hybrid offering is nice, but it's not enough to compete IMO.

Jeep's 4xe platform is all the evidence we need to know that there is a big market for 4x4 PHEVs.

It would appear that the electric motor in the iForce Taco is designed to deliver 98hp and 68 ft-lbs of torque. That simply isn't enough power to move a track of this size and weight - especially the added weight of the battery pack to provide 25...or 100 miles of range. To make a Prime version viable a motor with an output of 200+ hp would be required (just for safety) which also drives the size of the battery pack.

If you want a "Prime" truck from Toyota - it will have to be on a dedicated platform.
Given that the RAV4 Prime has more capable motors on the smaller TNGA-K platform, I don't know that a separate dedicated platform would be necessary for accommodating the motor(s). Just additional/stronger electric motors. The bigger issue would be battery packaging, most likely. More battery capacity means you have to have either a new battery chemistry or room for more battery.

And if Jeep drops a Gladiator 4xe, they'll probably sell more than they can make. I was hoping they'd announce one this year, but no luck. I don't really like Jeep products, but a PHEV mid-size pickup is hard to argue with.

My goal is to find something new by the Spring of 2025. Right now, I'm considering the new Land Cruiser, GX 550, Tacoma Trailhunter, Wrangler 4xe, and upcoming Bronco PHEV.

I just really wish Toyota would make this decision easier for me by releasing a viable off-road PHEV...

So just saw this today.....IMO the Ranger PHEV will be an awesome truck for a lot of people. Hopefully Toyota is taking notes.

Yes!! I'm am also waiting for the Ranger PHEV. 45km on electric range is a big bonus. 2025-26 is a long wait for it but if the taco will offer 4-5 extra inch in the rear leg room and crew cab before then....maybe for me....just a little ugly for me to get use to.

4G tacoma is great for toyota enthusiast, that's all. Toyota has mentioned that they will deliver what buyers want for decades but nothing. I hate it when they hide all these news for the next year model and nothing's changed.

Agreed 10000% Toyota is great with their family vehicle's but it's like they don't give a crap about their truck products because it's already a best seller.

You guys waiting on the Ranger PHEV are going to be waiting a while. Everything I read on it is that it's a Europe and Australia only option. Ford doesn't seem to be too interested in selling it here since we have the Lightning and the Maverick.

thats what i said on the forum ni planned to order a ranger until I saw it. It’s hideous. No tremor option. No thanks
Jalopnik quoted a Ford exec in one of the articles and I don’t remember the exact quote but they basically said they have no plans to bring it Stateside as the market already has “options” like the Maverick and F150. Stupid

I never trust those sorts of statements, though. They don't want people holding off on a purchase because the right vehicle is coming. They'd rather sell a gasser today and get you to trade in for the PHEV next year.

But they do make enough bad decisions that you certainly can't bank on them bringing the PHEV, either.

Yes, Ford doesn't have plans yet to bring it to america but right now there is no truck that's PHEV, just HEV's or EV's. It will probably depend on the market at the other countries. Toyota didn't think about a small pick up until the market of the Maveric was super successful. If the Ranger PHEV will do well, they may bring it to america sooner.

Question is does Ford even have a place to build it or the batteries in the US? Could be totally different when Blue Oval City comes online.
