@YourOnlineHero that answer is pathetic and extremely lame.

So they shipped our trucks even though they somehow forgot to finish building them? Now they will sit outside for months waiting for the parts that should have been installed at the factory?

If my truck is in the same situation I might just take my deposit back and let some other poor fool wait months for Toyota to extract their collective heads from their asses. Then maybe in a few years, if Toyota remembers how to build trucks again, I will give them another look.

Did I mention that Toyota's answer is pathetic and lame?
100% agree it was a lame duck answer at best. Still waiting for another call back on the expected arrival date. I’m torn on the truck at this point because I’d really like a new Tacoma, but at this rate it sounds like I’ll be getting my 2024 Tacoma TRD PRO sometime in early 2025. Sorry for anyone else dealing with the waiting game. Curious if anyone else has heard anything different or the same.

Any updates on your truck? Hopefully you have some shipping information by now.

For me, I had no luck changing the color on my reservation. I asked my salesman if they could change the color, or if not, maybe dealer trade. There's a dealer across town that had a pair of identical Ice Cap Trailhunters allocated and available, so in my mind it made sense they might entertain a trade for a different color. The response I got wasn't great. First they told me the manager would call me, which he never did. Then they told me I should be happy to have reserved one because they have "100 people" on the waiting list for my truck. Wrong answer.... lol. I called the dealer across town and reserved one in Ice Cap.

My truck was built on 9/3. Now I'm officially in the waiting game.
Yes, it's built and collecting dirt in a holding yard in Mexico.

EDIT: Whoa, after I posted this I checked Toyota.com and have an estimated arrival date of 9/21-10/4 (it was in build status this morning) which means hopefully sometime before Christmas.

@YourOnlineHero My salesperson has been on vacation and will be back tomorrow. Based on what you have learned I will ask for something specific about the status of my truck. If it is on an indefinite hold I think I am out.

With the kind of wait time Toyota told you, we would be getting 2024 Tacomas in the 2025 model year. They will have already had their first big model year depreciation before they are are even delivered. After already waiting months that is not acceptable to me. I also really want this truck, but maybe not under these conditions. Having it sitting outside waiting while Toyota scrounges dumpsters for parts and then finally being delivered months after the model year change is just not going to cut it for me.

Today I finished cleaning up my 2011 Tundra for a trade in evaluation. It looks like the day I bought it and everything works. I still love driving it and I am certain that the transmission will not fail. I am having a really hard time justifying the cost of a Pro under these circumstances.

If you learn more please let us know. I will do the same. It is a bad feeling to wait months for my truck and now when I thought I was close to get put on indefinite hold.

At least someone is getting some good news around here haha. My Taco is also sitting in a holding yard in Mexico or America collecting dirt.

I called Toyota Corporate Brand Engagement. Spoke to them for about 20 minutes. Toyota Brand engagement had the dealership call me about an hour later. That’s whenever I was told about “Waiting on the hubcaps to arrive” for the truck to be delivered to the dealership. Hoping for some kind of update today or in the next week.

My truck went through a whole series of those dates and now it just says check with dealer.

And maybe someone can inform Brand Engagement that these trucks don't even have hubcaps. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they mean center caps for the wheels, but their ignorance does not give them much credibility.

I will talk to my sales rep tomorrow and see what her story is. I would like to see a tracking screen and I would like someone, anyone to tell me exactly what is going on. I will post if I learn more.

Good luck in the TRD Pro lottery.

I was quite dumbfounded as to the reasoning too… I was just hoping they would give me an actual delivery date instead of another excuse. But that still hasn’t happened. Today marks 28 days the truck has been listed as, “Vehicle May Be In Transit.” I’ve seen at least 12 Halo trims and TRD PRO’s within a 500 mile radius go from the build phase, vehicle in transit, to vehicle delivered in this same time frame. Toyota’s shipping process needs some refinement and Toyota should also consider more open dialogue with customers, but I’m also just some random dude on the internet.

Yesterday my neighbor told me that she was able to change the color of her Grand Highlander allocation. Toyota needs to train their dealers to get all of their lies to agree - it would be so much easier to follow.
I agree 100%. I feel like Toyota dealers in general don't care. Their sales people do not put in any effort. People just come in and buy whatever they have or put their name on a list.

I'm glad that you found a better dealer - that first one did not deserve your business.
I don't know that this one is better, they just have the color I want. These guys advertised a $5k markup. I told them I didn't want to pay it, so they took it off. Easy as that. I don't know if it's the price or constant delays, but these trucks aren't as hot as they thought they'd be.

Exactly. Salespeople just write up the paperwork; most folks already know what they want, and enthusiasts often know more about the vehicle than the people selling it. I've talked to a few in person, and I would prefer if they didn't try to impress me with completely incorrect information about the vehicle I'm interested in or the car I drove in with (usually my Lexus). As an aside, I've met two people who correctly recognized the uniqueness of my IS F.

The market has changed, as manufacturers are finding out that people will pay even when production is restricted. It's crazy that the good dealers are selling at MSRP. I've spoken to a lot of dealers over the last few months; they take your information, and you never hear from them again.

@TacoFreak get any good news or an update? I did get a phone call from the Antioch Toyota Sales manager this morning. Sales manager actually sounded frustrated with Toyota because he expected delivery of the TRD PRO to be mid August or the 1st week of September. To add salt to the wound, the TrailHunter Antioch Toyota is getting that has a similar build date to my PRO just received an update and will be delivered today. My TRD PRO still hasn’t moved and is stuck at the port in California. Sales manager is gonna call his regional rep to ask for an explanation and exact delivery date on my PRO.

The sales manager stated that as a result of this allocation being in their system and not moving for some time, that they are unable to be allocated any new TRD PRO’s, which means the dealership will potentially lose out on another allocation because the shipping process with my TRD PRO has been a mysterious nightmare. By no means did he frame this as my fault, but rather he 100% blamed Toyota’s horrid shipping process and how it’s negatively impacting the customers and dealerships. The journey continues…

Now that is interesting! One of the dealers I talked to did mention that they have a lot of pressure to sell the halo models, and even having one show up without a buyer in place is a bad thing according to Toyota. I've been watching the Trailhunters on Toyota's inventory page for the Phoenix metro and there have been no new ones added since the initial allocations (May/June). I wonder if the that is part of the reason. Best I can tell, none have been delivered in the area.

Crazy that no Halo Trims have been delivered to the Phoenix Metro area. I’ve seen at least 12 TRD PRO’s + Halo trim models in the last three weeks go from the build and phase, vehicle in transit, to the vehicle being delivered within a 500 miles radius of central California.

My best guess is that Toyota must be waiting on parts to arrive at the port for both the TrailHunter and TRD PRO’s. The sales manager at Antioch Toyota was off work yesterday, but called me this morning to update me and let me know he’s calling the Toyota Regional Rep for news on my truck as well as to get a delivery date.

Are you waiting on a TrailHunter?
