My PRO will be here in a week. Called my insurance this morning (won’t say which but we’re apparently in “good hands”) who said that our rates would jump by $870/6 mo. by replacing my 2018 Grand Cherokee. This got a “holy f—k!” from my barely-ever-swears wife. We do have “platinum” coverage, currently with 2 young-ish drivers and 4 cars total, no violations from anyone and one crash that was our son’s fault over 2 years ago, but yikes. Our agent offered to call us back next week and see what else we could do to try to make it more affordable, but anyone else get ridiculous insurance quotes? Any recommendations?

lack of parts, new model, higher cost of vehicle. give it 5-10 yrs and your insurance cost will go down.
If only that were true. My 2011 4Runner has increased every year, our 2013 Sonic has increased every year (it was somehow substantially more to insure than the 4Runner so we dropped collision), and my wife’s 2023 RAV4 has increased every year.

No tickets, no claims, no accidents. I’ve shopped around after every increase and still have the lowest rates I can find. But the whole “insurance will go down as you and the car get older and when you get married” thing has been the biggest lie I’ve been told in life.

Similar situation for me with Travellers. I traded in a 2014 4runner Trail Edition Premium for a 2025 ORP. Insurance doubled, but there is a huge difference in replacement cost, etc between a vehicle with 235,000 miles and a brand new one. I underestimated this insurance cost increase. The new policy does include full new vehicle replacement value.

I attempted to get the rates down, but the only substantial discounts required low yearly mileage. I'm driving 20-30k/year. They want odometer proof every 6 months to reduce the policy and limit the vehicle to only 5k miles/year. Nope.

Hey there. Just as a comparison, I am with Progressive and my 6-month premium for the TRD Pro is $436.39. I have $100k/$300k, medical, rental, etc and live in Northwest Montana. Not sure why it is so inexpensive...
I’m almost the same on my SR5 in Colorado. Was very surprised.

GEICO quoted me $723.00 for 6 months on their website. I have them currently for my Supra and its only about $50 cheaper than a 2020 Supra

it also could include that i have mine set at 7500 miles a year driven and our location. i mean the town i am in is only 50k people and the whole state is only like 730k total pop. and i mean towns are spread out like around 100 miles apart between major cities in ND

thats like hip pocket numbers for some town/states

Mileage could definitely affect things. I want to say we’re at 12,000 miles per vehicle? The 4Runner I could lower for sure as I only did 5k in it last year. The Sonic has been my go to for most daily driving.

I’m in northwest Indiana, but between two tiny little towns who’s population is less thank 5K combined.

even though you are in a small town, your overall geographic is pretty dense compared to ND, so that does take into effect when companies evaulate a region/state for insurance adjustments.

also overall claim rate affects you a lot (all those scammers :)

TRD ORP Hybrid owner here. I also have progressive. I carry $100k/$300k and medical as well. I live in NE Oklahoma and my policy cost is similar to yours. We do get a discount since we use progressive homesite for our homeowner's coverage. Some of these numbers are shocking to see.

funny thing, on my 2014 4runner, it costs more to hit a deer than it is to get into a car accident

I must be in the minority, my insurance actually went down with my 2025 SR5 -- it is $50 a month cheaper than the Mazda CX-50 I traded in. My rate is $500 for 6th months with USAA, I also carry my stepson since he's driving my 4th gen, and it's just over $400. Granted he's 23, so the rate is probably reflective of that.
