  1. Help Deciding which Truck - TRD Pro or Canyon AEV

I needed a truck last September before the Tacomas hit the lots and pulled the trigger on a standard Colorado ZR2, expecting to trade it in after a year or two. I’ve really fallen in love with it over my 12k miles of ownership and it has handled everything so well, including commuting, road...
  2. At this point would it be stupid to buy a 2024 TRD Pro instead of waiting for a 2025?

I wouldn't expect to see 2025 on the lots until early next year. If you can wait, then wait, but know you'll be waiting 6-8 months longer for the same truck. The 2023 Chevy Colorados first hit the dealer lots in March 2023. Chevy ended up extending the 23 production run into December when...
  3. I wanna see a drag race of Turbo vs Hybrid Tacomas

It's not the same thing but I recently had a Jeep wrangler 4xe for a week long rental. This model is a plug in hybrid but I was only using it in standard hybrid mode because I didn't have a way to charge it up. What was most noticeable for me was off the line acceleration was very quick and...
  4. Lone Peak Overland Camper Install - Review & Photos

The Lone peak looks great on the back of your truck! Thanks for pointing out the designs issues with these new Tacomas, you'd think that Toyota would know that a decent number of their customers are going to install truck caps/ campers. I'm a big fan of the Lone peak design and hopefully have...
  5. Hybrid 2024 Tacoma Limited Tested: Torque, Smoothness, MPG, Acceleration 0-60 mph

Something I noticed in other videos from that event is that the hybrids didn’t seem to be operating at full capacity on the dash display. I think they gave each reviewer only 15-20 minutes to drive them and they all proceeded to hammer them back to back with little to no recharge time. I’m not...
  6. Hybrid iForce Max Models' Curb Weights, GVWR, Payload Published

I was perusing the Toyota website and saw that the Tacoma spec page (https://www.toyota.com/tacoma/features/mpg_other_price/7598/7536/7534) was updated with weights and capacities for the hybrid models. Most of the first drive reviews showed the door sticker stating ~1200lbs payload for all...
  7. Is the 2024 TRD Pro worth it anymore?

If people are already balking at the pricing, I wouldn’t be so sure of market defying resale value. The competition is hot and the car market the last few years is not a good indicator of the next few. I’m not saying resale will be bad, but it is still a depreciating asset.
  8. đź’° MSRP Pricing (U.S. / Canada) & MPG for Hybrid 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro, Trailhunter, TRD Off-Road, TRD Sport, Limited!

I'm not sure I understand the question, all of the trucks listed compete in the same class of midsize halo off road trims. They each have a unique set of options and packages but at the end of the day are built for the same purpose. I'd argue that the Raptor would be the most "fun" truck with...
  9. đź’° MSRP Pricing (U.S. / Canada) & MPG for Hybrid 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro, Trailhunter, TRD Off-Road, TRD Sport, Limited!

Pricing is about where I predicted it to be, 63-65k for TH and Pro. At that price it’s competing against the Ranger raptor for a little less, ZR2 for a lot less, or ZR2 Bison for about the same. It’s going to be a great truck for those that decide to pony up for the Toyota tax but the value...
  10. Shock top hat failure on our stock 2024 Tacoma Off-Road while offroading

Toyota is advertising these trucks, mostly the TRD pro, as being able to bomb through the desert and take jumps. It's the first thing you see when you click on the Tacoma overview page on their website. They also highlight the bilsteins in the TRD OR as being "Co-engineered with Bilstein®, *...
  11. iForceMax Tacoma Hybrid Will Get 'Generator Mode' Treatment

The 2400w generator mode will be a key feature for the hybrid models, it would be really nice to not have to carry propane on camping trips! I already have a small power bank to keep a 12V fridge running but I have an induction cooktop I would replace my camp stove with if I had the power...
  12. Shock top hat failure on our stock 2024 Tacoma Off-Road while offroading

That looks like a fun trip! That top mount though seems like a very weak design. Thin cast aluminum like that will eventually reach it's fatigue limit from repeated stresses, even if you aren't bottoming it out. On my racecar I have aftermarket adjustable top mounts that use a heavy duty...
  13. Front skid plates - let's discuss

The TRD Off Road is mostly an appearance package with a rear locker and that is good enough for most buyers. The tires were chosen for fuel efficiency, a space saver spare to save costs and weight, subpar skid plate protection, etc. The bones are there but that means replacing/upgrading...
  14. Pricing complaints

The truck (and car) market has been out of whack the past few years but is quickly reversing direction. Prices won't go back to where they were in 2020 but many manufacturers are offering discounts and even MSRP reductions on vehicles. A new Tacoma generation is going to have some pent up...
  15. Issue Update: Front Differential Broke (ADD) on TFL's 2024 Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4WD

I would think it was stability control that is disabled in 4lo. A-trac and MTS are forms of traction control that are most aggressive in 4lo. Tinkerers adventure did a video on the Tundra showing that the ADD had been moved inside the diff which was good because they were prone to corrosion in...
  16. Apple CarPlay Issues - Navigation Location

I’ve seen this before too across multiple brands. Apple CarPlay is actually setup so that the truck passes GPS data to the phone. It works 95% of the time but still acts up some of the time. My phone is over 3 years old now so maybe the newer models are a little more reliable.
  17. TFL's 2024 Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4x4's 4WD Broke Down Deep in the Mountains

Both trucks are wearing the factory tires and both trucks are marketed as the entry level “off road” trim, I don’t see how this was an unfair comparison. They were even knocking the Colorado for missing some features and saying “the Tacoma may have a stronger transfer case” at the beginning of...
  18. Pricing complaints

TRD OR is a nice truck but the ZR2 and Ranger raptor compete more closely to the TRD pro which will easily be $60k+. The OR is more comparable to either a Canyon AT4 or Ranger FX4 (either xlt or lariat). I’m also in the Gulf states Toyota region that loves to add on thousands of port installed...
  19. Rear locker on the Off-Road trim -- only available in 4low?

Well I figured that was the obvious answer! Interestingly I just noticed that the prerunner, which is 2wd only, comes standard with a rear locker. So clearly the locker is capable of working in high gear yet Toyota chose not to allow it.
  20. Rear locker on the Off-Road trim -- only available in 4low?

Anytime you don’t need the low gearing but need a little extra traction. It’s a hassle to stop, put in N, shift to 4lo, back to D, lock the axle, get through obstacle, then go back to hi. TFL showed that Atrac is not very aggressive until you put it in 4lo. I use it sometimes pulling trailer...
