I rolled my eyes when I read that too. However, I believe a spacer lift is the only option right now if you want to lift the truck and fit large tires. So it makes sense that people are doing that at the moment.
Wow, solar octane was my favorite color until I saw this. It reminds me a lot of Pyrite Mica on the 2nd gen Tacoma.
I look forward to seeing this on an off-road without the body colored fender flairs.
Great video, and analysis! I think it'll be a big miss if the XtraCab is 2WD only, they should've offered at least one model with 4WD and coils.
One thing I haven't seen talked about is why wasn't KDSS brought to the Tacoma? It already exists on the TNGA-F platform with the 300 series LC...
In the savagegeese interview with the Chief Engineer he said the frame silhouette is the same for the leaf sprung setup. By utilizing a SUA setup they only had to punch holes to attach the hangers.
I listened to this interview with Sheldon Brown the chief engineer of the Tacoma and thought some of the stuff he said was really interesting and informative. I almost wished TFL stayed out of his way because he was talking more in depth about technical aspects and they distracted him by...
I think it's really cool too! The seats were largely useless in the Access Cab anyway and the storage area replacing the seats looks awesome. However, I have a few concerns. Can the XtraCab be spec'd with 4WD? Is it leaf sprung only? IMO it'll be a miss if there isn't one single trim option...
The Trailhunter is available with a 5 or 6ft bed. The 3rd Gen TRD Pro was always just a double cab with the 5ft bed so no surprise the 6ft bed isn't an option.
Front tow hooks are standard with rear optional. Here is a quote directly from the post:
"For the sketchiest of situations, Tacoma offers standard front and optional rear recovery hooks and underbody protection."
Wow, some really awesome details here, and some disappointments. I really like the updates to the TRD Off-road model with the Bilstein shocks and the sway bar disconnect. It is also nice to see the hybrid available on more trim levels than just the TRD Pro/Trailhunter. But holy cow that air...
Unfortunately, the 38.3" number is just a typo from Ford. The updated tech specs list 34.6", and the Raptor still listing 38.3" is likely just a mistake. I checked out Australia's specs for the new Ranger and it lists 879mm (which is 34.6") as the rear legroom for all crewcab trims including...
I am looking at the spec list for the new Ranger and I am confused about the rear legroom. For the new Ranger it says 34.6", but the Raptor version says 38.3". How did they find an extra 4 inches of legroom for the Raptor model that is only 0.3" longer overall with the same bed size, passenger...
From the teaser on 4/18 they actually look much more aggressive. There is some speculation that they are Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT's. If that is accurate the tread on those is much more aggressive than the kevlar wranglers on the 3rd gen.
As for the street tires I think Toyota correctly...
Very nice, and almost identical to all the renders we've seen. I really like it, and it's amazing what adding a break in the grill does compared to the Tundra. Can't wait to see it in a regular trim like SR5 or the TRD Off-Road without the black roof.
There definitely is some odd stuff going on under the access cab, but I think it’s just bad editing. I’m not sure why Toyota would sell just one model with leaf springs if the frame and wheelbase are exactly the same as the double cab short bed.
Edit: I’m looking at the image again and I do...
For clarification the smallest 3rd gen Tacoma is 212.3" vs the longest 2000 Tacoma is 202.9", a difference of only 9.4". Also, since the regular cab is no longer available the smallest 3rd gen and the longest 1st gen are actually the same truck, a double cab with the 5ft bed.
If you want...
