I don't see a noticeable difference, when I'm not carrying any of my camping gear nor have anything on my roof rack. I can get the same 20-22 mpg depending on I drive.
When I'm weighed down with all my gear, it's a different story. I'm down in the 17-20 range, which is pretty good, I guess.
I have the TopperEz Lift Nomad Package, which is a tent that goes over my tailgate. When sleeping in the truck, my wife and I can extend our feet out and stay covered.
They have another similar brand, TopperTent Midsize, which does the same thing.
I'm about to find out how well the Prinsu Pro Top Rack aligns with my Prinsu Pro rack I have over my cab. I'm hopeful that it will align well since Prinsu features the top rack on a smart cap.
I had similar concerns, I think I moved the cap slightly forward and this is less of an issue for me now. The gasket hits the lip of the tailgate but is not difficult to open.
Thanks for that description, it sounds like a solid tie down point in the front. I will likely get one of these, but one more question came to mind, with the netting connected to the bolt under the B pillar does it roll up?
I’ve been looking for a storage solution like this, so thanks for posting. How does the ceiling netting hook to the interior near the front seats? It’s a bit hard to see and I don’t remember any attachment points above the seatbelts.
I will address the height difference between the decked and tailgate by putting two half-sized Sidio crates at the end to support my feet and two more for my wife. The height of two half-sized crates is approximately equal to the decked.
Headspace was not bad. I'm 5'9", and my wife is 5'6"; we...
I agree the digital rear view camera is ok, but a lot of your view is reduced compared to when no cap is on the bed. I actually use the regular mirror now and can see pretty well cars that are close and far behind me. I saw a while back a rear-view camera re-location kit for the Tundra that...
Have you connected the Smart Cap brake light yet? If not, I highly recommend using the 1.25 or 1.5 in hole saw that the Smart Cap Install video uses. It is WAY easier and cleaner. I made the mistake of trying to use the drill bits in the instruction manual, and now I have a hole to fix. :)
Nice setup! I did the same with my TRD ORP (decked, Smart Cap, and Topper EZLift Nomad Package)) I actually went out camping last weekend with my wife and we loved the setup. Got some tweaks to make but I'm definitely looking forward to camping out of my truck.
Its great to see another taco with the smart cap on. My wife and I put ours together today, and here are a couple of pics.
I got some other ones from putting it together. I thought I'd write a longer post with my thoughts on the process.
One other thought: I'm so glad they included the NEW...
No, it wasn't bad; the other person's car had more damage but it was enough to have me go through their insurance to fix it and make it look like the new truck that it is.
I will post pictures. I received my SmartCap last week, but can't install bc my truck is in the shop after someone backed into it. I'm hoping to get it installed this weekend.
