And OP, I haven't noticed anything like you mention. I can "feel" that it is in 4wd but no real difference in pedal response or noise. I'm not particularly sensitive to that kind of thing though....I'm too used to driving noisy old 4 bangers with the radio volume up. Something pretty loud has to...
Correct to my knowledge. It is recommended in the manuals and I do the same thing. Engage 4 high on a straight run every once in awhile to keep the spiderwebs away (if you aren't regularly doing real offroading).
I've been looking too. Yakima's site doesn't show them as compatible with 4th Gen but I'd like something like their Skyline system. Keep the landing pads and just throw on the bars for the few times a year I haul my canoe. hopefully they or Thule will come out with something soon. The door frame...
OP thanks for the good info. I'm stuck in the 80's - I just assumed all drain plugs are still magnetized. Also I didn't mean the clean drainpan thing as a dig - that was me being jealous. I'm lazy and cheap so have 20 years worth of old oil residue and brake dust in mine.
Did mine at about 1,000 mi. Nothing on the plug (it has a magnet, right?) but my pan is so filthy I wouldn't be able to tell. You guys and your clean drain pans....:)
The symptoms described on the other forum sound like a linkage issue not trans failure. It will be interesting to hear what their root cause actually is and if it is a concern for all the MTs. But I doubt the sky is falling. I'm at about 3k with a 2/24 build date and no shifting issues.
I see the feature to auto lock the doors when the speed hits 12 mph in the book for MTs. It says in-gear auto lock is only available for auto trans. And I see the same thing as you - the book seems to say the feature can be turned on/off via infotainment, but I don't see that option in my...
I have the 4 pieces as well. At a glance It seems like an odd choice by Toyota not to run full length trim on the roof rail channels. Looks like water could just sit in the middle on top (between the individual trim pieces) and the since the front portion of the channel intersects with the...
Don't worry - you're not doing anything wrong. It just takes some getting used to. If you look up "1st to 2nd" for the 3rd Gen it is the same thing with low gearing in 1st. My experience so far is that there are two ways to take off from a complete stop smoothly. You can mosey off with slow...
No problems with mine. Currently at around 700 miles. Agree that 1st to 2nd is definitely different from my other MTs and the clutch bite point is pretty high. Getting used to it now though. I expect it just takes a bit of time to master (which is why we love driving sticks, right?).
The argument may have some merit but his analogy between full stop braking and traction control does not make much sense to me. Traction control - engine power is reduced but the brakes are opposing torque produced by the engine. Emergency braking while in 4wd - you are hopefully not stomping...
Stupid question from someone who hasn't done much offroading in modern trucks. Is the correct procedure in that situation to turn traction control off, keep it on, or is it turned off automatically in 4lo?
There is a thread on the TW forum with someone reporting that they received a skinny spare that does not match the door sticker's spare rating. That is an indisputable error that I would certainly complain about. Those who have already taken delivery may want to double check.
Then there is the...
I guess that lends weight to the production error hypothesis. If it is an error that is corrected later in the production run I would hope Toyota would offer something to the folks who purchased early (me too - mine is in freight :)) to make up for it. Not a big deal, but still...
