  1. Highest tank range after fill up I’ve ever had

Once I passed 5000 miles, I started to see a noticeable improvement in MPG, and not just because I was doing more highway driving. Itā€™s interesting that with higher MPG, the potential tank range goes up. Iā€™ve never seen it this high after filling up. I know itā€™s all relative because if I drove...
  2. Poor gas mileage

When I first got my 24 I was a bit disappointed with the mileage, but understood along the lines of what everybody talks about here as this being a truck and to not expect good mileage. However, once I hit around 4500 miles my mileage started to improve dramatically. I Drive with a heavy foot in...
  3. Grill Shutters! Necessary? Would You Delete Them?

I'd first unplug it and run without it to see what happens. I suspect you might get a CEL if you delete it and it would suck to only find that out after having removed it.
  4. Second oil change at 5000 miles. More metal debris found (with pics!)

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, including perceiving me as "...an ass clown with poor judgement ". Personally I don't care what your opinion is.
  5. Second oil change at 5000 miles. More metal debris found (with pics!)

I just drive fast; always have. I will say though that with the Gen 4 90 to 100 mph feels like 70mph. The Toyota absolutely nailed the driving dynamics. The truck doesn't even break a sweat and is rock solid with RPMs around 2K. I don't drive 100 all that often, but on most of the trips these...
  6. Second oil change at 5000 miles. More metal debris found (with pics!)

No, the pieces were in different parts of the pleats - Some in the middle, some at the ends. Not near where I removed the filter base plate.
  7. Second oil change at 5000 miles. More metal debris found (with pics!)

I used this one from Amazon to cut it open. It works with a huge variety of different oil filters so I can check those form my Honda and Acura as well...
  8. Second oil change at 5000 miles. More metal debris found (with pics!)

Yes, the oil filters are really well made. Iā€™ve opened two of the OEMā€˜s and theyā€™re totally well built. Normally I would use only Wix filters, but when I go to the parts counter at my dealer, the OEM filters are around the same price as ordering Wix from Amazon, so I just got those. As for the...
  9. Second oil change at 5000 miles. More metal debris found (with pics!)

Did the second oil change on the Tacoma today. First was around 500 miles and itā€™s posted on here somewhere. Second one at 5000 miles. You can see from the photos an example of one of three pieces of metal I found in the filter after cutting it open. Good news is filter is doing its job! Second...
  10. 1013 Miles in, first oil change completed

To fully understand what happens inside a 4-cyl Toyota engine with the recommended 10K mile changes, please watch this video: The oil was changed every 10K miles at the dealership per the recommendations. UOA's were likely normal. The car has 180K at this point. Now imagine adding on a turbo...
  11. Factory rock sliders rusting

Hit it with some RP-432 BLACK or Fluidfilm BLACK to stop it, hide the rust, and prevent future rust. I coated the underside of my steps when I installed them along with all the mounting hardware and bolts with CRC-6026 CLEAR and it's been all good so far.
  12. To prefill or not to prefill oil filter?

If you want to be 100% technical about the answer, The Motor Oil Geek on YouTube has a lengthy video that says, yes, you should prefill and why. Practically speaking if there is any damage it's extremely minimal and probably not an issue. I don't prefill, however like @diverjm mentions, I do...
  13. Question, Lane assist

For me, lane departure works all the time, not just when cruise control is engaged. The adaptive cruise control is more about controlling the speed of the cruise control which you set using the button over on the right. Actually had it on the other day and itā€™s pretty cool. It kept the right...
  14. Any fixes for levelling the JBL center channel yet?

I adjusted fade to rear a bit. Also on sound settings I turned down ā€œmidrangeā€ a bit and that helps. Some on this forum have covered the contacts on the speaker so when itā€™s in place it produces no sound and they seem happy with that. I havenā€™t tried it.
  15. OEM mudflaps. Canada vs US.

Itā€™s more about the fender flare that you have on the side of your truck. So the TRD Pro and Trail Hunter would be the ones for the larger flaps and SR5 and any of the other trucks that donā€™t have that added flare on the side would take the other version. The different widths actually correspond...
  16. 2024 SR5 less than 1k miles issues

Yes. Iā€™ve never understood that. It drives me crazy that everything lights up when itā€™s something like an O2 sensor or some random misfire. Do all those systems actually go down?
  17. Things that should be standard no-brainer things Toyota didn't do for all Trim levels

My point was more that you cannot lock or unlock the vehicle from the tailgate area in models without power tailgates. I have an SR5 but I'm assuming most models do not come with "Button 2" in the pic above. And so what I'm saying is regardless of if you have a power tailgate or not you should...
  18. What oil to get for our truck?

Yet another oil thread. Use the Toyota OEM oil. You can usually get it from the parts counter for ~$5.50 a quart (ask for their best price!). It is NOT Mobil 1 and has much higher levels of Moly & Boron. See this post. The Amsoil Moly is 225 and the Boron is 356ppm. The TGMO has 755ppm of Moly...
  19. 4th Gen Tacoma Quick Reference Guide Thread! šŸ“’

What did you have to trim? There are some pics in this thread but if you look around there are 3-4 mudflap posts on here some of which have pics.
