Since Summer 2024, I’ve been trying to locate an OEM brake controller for my 2024 Tacoma, SR5. The dealer claimed to have found one for over $350. When I checked Toyota Parts, it was the wrong part. In November 2024, I gave my dealer a trailer brake controller part number, 84391-AK101, and my sales said they couldn’t find it. Today, 1/2/2025, I called Toyota directly today. They called the dealership parts department and the brake controller, 84391-AK101, will be in stock on Saturday. It is listed as $154. Let's see what happens.

Absolutely. They market a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds and not even a trailer brake controller pigtail or easy way of finding an OEM add-on. Why?

Totally agree. My Tundra didn't come with one, but it was a 2011 and no new trucks came with them back then. It did at least have the pigtail to make installation easier.

So even though Toyota cheaped out and didn't give you one, they should have given every truck a pigtail and made that part easily available. That price is pretty reasonable and I hope it is plug and play for installation in your dash.

This whole brake controller thing forced me trade in my 2024 Tacoma to one that I could put a brake controller in with out cutting and splicing wires into a $55,000 truck . It was my 5th Tacoma and the salesman at Sunrise Toyota in Orillia Ontario promised me several times that there was a connector there , even backed up by the sales mannagers claim that "Toyota would not sell a truck with that towing capacity without provision for a brake controller " 3 weeks of wasted time and about 20 phone calls to everybody from the salesman to Tohota head office got me nowhere , other that the sales mannager getting rude with me . - I've been a loyal Toyota customer for 20 years , but this thing is making me look at another make in the future . If anybody from Toyota reads these forums . You really dropped the ball on this one
