We took the new rig (truck and 3000 lb trailer) out for a ‘shakedown’ trip to a State Park 100 miles away, up in the Hill Country. Having discovered that the transmission is on the watch list I wanted to find out sooner rather than later if it was going to fail, so…
Keeping it at the speed limit (75 - 80) and on cruise control in the ‘Tow-Haul’ mode the truck performed very well imho (Did not slow down even climbing hills). Deviation from normal temps (ambient 70*) on the dash engine and oil gauges appeared to be + ~5%, which in my hillbilly opinion is ok, but better avoided. I have yet to do a visual / sniff check of the fluids.
Halfway home my wife noticed the speed and ‘asked’ if I wasn’t exceeding the recommended tow advice….
at 65 all temps nominal.
