Posting this maybe as an FYI as I haven't seen a thread about it or maybe I missed one. Anyway...
If you have in-truck wifi subscription and you want to use Airplay at the same time it is a bit of a hassle if you have previously set up Airplay to be wireless. If you connect to the in-vehicle hotspot it will disconnect you from wireless carplay because carplay uses the wifi connection on your phone. So you lose carplay but then carplay automatically 'fixes' itself and disconnects you from the hotspot. Its a PITA.
Here is how I got it to work.
1. On your iphone, turn off your wifi in the settings
2. Go to carplay app on your phone (via settings) and you will be prompted with "wifi isn't available, enable USB only mode" you must click this to switch to USB mode.
3. Connect your phone using the USB-C connection to the SCREEN usb connection on the top right side of the screen. Not the charging ports below next to the wireless charging/shifter.
4. This will connect you to WIRED airplay
5. Then you can connect to your in-car WIFI
This was a big pain for me to figure out. I have some long trips coming up so I bought a month of wifi for the family to use their devices in the vehicle. The speeds are 'ok' which is enough for a handful of devices to listen to music/stream/browse etc. The data plan says it is unlimited and it was $25 for the month.
NOTE: If someone finds a simpler way to do this please respond so I can update the instructions.
