My dealership called me yesterday and said they had received a TRD sport (in silver), and that it was mine if I wanted, and that I could check it out and test drive it.

I popped over to have a look and did a test drive. Loved it, but the first thing I noticed is that the center console screen felt too low. I had to look down towards the screen, not straight at it. In my current Subaru the screen is lined up perfectly at eye level when driving making it easy for navigation. This is of course the smaller screen.

Can anyone comment on this? Is there a reason why it's so low?

Sales rep tried to sell me on the TRD sport, but I told him I'd rather wait it out for the SR5.

The Sport looks great with body colored fenders.

How tall are you?

I test drove TRD Premium…..thought the huge 14” screen was obtrusive and distracting and the text size for a 90 yr old with bad eyes…LOL. I’ll wait until after the global recession

The sport does look great, but it's 5k more for stuff I really dont need. Would rather put the cash towards wheels/tires on the SR5.

I'm quite average actually at 5'8, so don't think it's a height thing.

I'd totally wait until after the impeding global economic collapse as well, but I have a 2 kids, one brand new and we need the size ASAP. I do prefer the smaller screen to the 14 though.

I agree with it seeming a bit low. While we don’t have the premium OR big screen, I dislike the ‘scrolling’ of the radio stations. Makes no sense. In fact all the phone feeling features of the screen are that way. Total distraction imo. And yea, I still listen to am/fm. Preset ‘buttons’ are still the best.

Did the Sport you drove have the 14” screen?

I’m 6’ 4” and find the huge 14” screen a bit annoying due to the large surface area and reach requirements. For example, with CarPlay in the triple window configuration, it requires my full wingspan to reach the lower right corner to skip past podcast ads.

Other than that, I really like it. I don’t find it all that distracting even at nighttime.

If you’re a CarPlay user, Toyota does continue to keep music playing while you’re using Siri or having a text message read outloud. For podcasts and audio books, it will pause it automatically. Just not for music. This is actually a Toyota thing and not Apple specific. The Tundra and Tacoma folks have been discussing it for a few years. On my other vehicles, CarPlay will pause the music playback when using Siri. Much better experience IMO.

Was a TRD premium, not a sport. For me, it was just too big, too in my face. Instead of something to refer to, it seemed shoved in my sight. Some might like it. The text was too big too
If you look closely at any of the user interface graphics from the Toyota system, they’re super low res and pixelated. E.g. The left side menu is pixelated. They released a 14” high res screen, but didn’t visually design their software around that resolution. Meanwhile, CarPlay looks sharp and high res.

At 65 years old I like the bigger screen. All car will be going to a bigger screen in 3-10 years
