Hi all,
My one month old taco was hit n ran with. I think I might have escaped “unscathed” in the sense that the bumper cap and the taillight are all that needed replacing, which “only” ran me about 700 bucks. Due to the low cost, I elected to not involve insurance or the police (they did jack sh!t for previous vandalism and hit n run cases here in the PNW)
While I replace these two parts, how do I make absolutely certain that nothing is bent out of shape? (First time owning a truck, let alone one with a composite bed)
I might be tweaking now, but the tailgate is definitely not perfectly centered (bigger gap on the passenger side), but it seems like there tailgate has some give anyway for me to move it horizontally AND a lot of people complain about this misalignment from the factory it seems anyway.
besides the obvious scratches, only one plastic tab appears broken, so the bumper cap is definitely a bit looser, but staying on just fine before my replacement comes.
Here I indicate the most likely direction of the impact (red arrow). I have no good intuition for how big of an impact this would have been, maybe someone here can tell me.
Some incredibly minor paint rubbed off on the tailgate, which tells me that the taillight may have temporarily touched the tailgate at the time of impact.
