Anyone have any experience with the Toyota Genuine Dash cam 2.0? Is it worth it? Seems nice and integrated to the interior. Or any other 3rd party options recommended that also have a parking surveillance mode?

This is my first dashcam. I like it. It is easy to use and blends in aesthetically. You access the footage through an app. You have to connect to the it via a Bluetooth like connection. There is no cloud storage. The resolution is good enough. There is a speedometer and gyrometer if you want to include that in your video. Apparently it also goes off if someone hits you while parked. It turns on automatically when I turn on the ignition.

I thought the 2.0 was only availability in Canada, not the US?

How is the nighttime image quality? Can you make out license plate numbers? How about in full daylight? Does Toyota list what type of sensor it uses?

From my experience, most dashcam models perform poorly in low light conditions. At night, the reflection of your vehicle’s headlights tends to wash out the image of the vehicle’s license plate immediately in front of you.

I like the idea of having an integrated dashcam (aesthetics, no splicing wires), so I’m curious to know what others think about the Tacoma’s dashcam.

I like the dashcam itself, but using the app is hit and miss. When you download the app you will see the rating is like 1.5 stars. You always have the option of pulling the micro SD card and watching it on your computer. I and all my kids use a garmin which is pretty good with their app

It's 1080p. If you are at a stoplight you can probably make out a license plate, barely. I'm not sure the nighttime quality yet.
