These things aren't magic folks. The 10,000 lbs BEV makes sense- comparable to the Lightning specs. That said, the range won't be great while towing. The Harvester package adds weight over the rear axle so of course the towing capacity will be compromised. Also, look at what comparable vehicles are doing- the R1S tows 7700lbs, the Escalade IQ 8000lbs. Neither of these have a range extender or cost anywhere near $60k.

cancel a $100 reservation at this point? ppl are crazy! do you remember what happened with the Bronco?? Dealerships were buying the vehicles back from costomers in the front of the line because of the total demand when they went into production... not to mention that you could sell them on the private market for 20% more than you paid because anyone that saw them on the street or were late to the game would be forced to the back of the line. I expect nothing different with the Scout.

Anyone canceling their reservations - contact me, I will buy

@Scout has left the chat
lol we might come back. We left that door open. I’m thinking that in the 2030s they might have what we’re looking for.

Probably same here, will probably be an over priced dud like Tesla CT and Rivian Truck.

Can’t get good prices next four years.
I also cancelled both of my reservations but for a different reason since I do not use my vehicle for towing. In the end it will be too expensive. Hopefully the new Scout will be much more reliable than the first ones ever produced.

I am getting too accustomed to the cheap lease deals on EV's and cannot see myself ever plopping down $50K+ for a vehicle again. I just leased a 2025 Nissan Ariya for $98/mo with nothing down for 3 years. Even with my $1,700 drive off fees (tax, first payment, dealer handling, etc) that is only $5,228 to drive an EV for three years. I could repeat the process 10 times and barely reach the $50K threshold. I know the future lease deals on EV's won't be as favorable to consumers as they are right now.
I forgot to mention that one. The price just kept going up and up from what we had originally been told before the reservations. Plus losing the 15,000 EV tax credit was a huge chunk of money to lose. Especially for two of them! We didn’t think the resale value on them would hold very much. The depreciation on the EV‘s is pretty high from our research. And if we have to replace the batteries, it is a huge price tag.

None of the towing numbers are official yet, including the 10,000 lb BEV. It only costs $100 per vehicle to wait until it's official. I believe Scout will gain more sales from having a 500 mile range than they'll lose from having reduced towing. Everyone's needs are different, though.
I think you are correct. Most people will not be towing with them. I would love for the day to come when EVs will be considered for towing and with a long range. That was our main buying point for us.

While I can understand the 5k limit might be disappointing for some EREV reservations - even if it could tow 10k lbs, the range doing it might still be disappointing anyway. I don't think it is being designed as an extended range towing vehicle - but that is just my WAG. My bet is the 150 mile range and a 60kwh battery puts it using about 25kw/h. If the generator does the same - they get their 500 mile combined range without towing, but given most EV's that tow get well under 1mile/kwh - the small generator that is necessary for max range and milage will not keep up with the load, and the battery will deplete rapidly - Maybe a 40 mile EV towing range, and about 10 more for the power generated during that time. A sub 60 mile 10k towing range would be more off putting than the 5k tow limit.

Add to that, I recall reading Dodge is planning about a 20kwh battery reserve to handle towing loads on the battery with the Ram Charger. If Scout needs that reserve on their EREV, that could put 10k towing range closer to 40 miles.

I reserved the BEV - with the understanding most of my driving will not be towing (which is probably the case for the VAST majority of the market), and most of the towing with it will either be short range or light (again, the majority of the market). I have a diesel 3/4 ton for longer range heavy towing - and am not planning on getting rid of it. It does that job too well. I don't mind having vehicles for specific purposes - and I think the BEV fits in with my wants and needs better.
---
Plus, I am not currently eligible for the EV credits anyway - so that does not effect me.

It doesn't make any sense to cancel your reservation(s). Full specs are still not known as everything until production is just assumption. Seeing as how the reservation can be refundable at any time, why not just keep it? Is that $100 really going to be needed now?

For me I'm still excited and towing doesn't matter at all at 5k lbs that's more than enough for anything I'd want tow.
Directly from Scout Motor’s website: (Notice the Traveler has dropped from 10,000 pounds when it was first announced to 7,000 pounds already.)

“Scout Motors projects a maximum towing capacity of over 10,000 lbs. for the Terra™ truck and over 7,000 lbs. for the Traveler™ SUV.”

From an interview from Scout’s spokesperson: (Notice it says **UP** to!)

“However, towing capability will be substantially less for Harvester models than for all-electric models, Keogh indicated. He said the plug-in hybrids would tow up to 5,000 pounds, compared to 7,000 pounds for all-electric versions of the Traveler SUV and 10,000 pounds for the Terra pickup. That's likely due to the choice of LFP battery chemistry, which is less able to produce bursts of power when called upon like NMC chemistry. When asked to confirm why the Harvester models drop tow capacity Scout spokesperson Kathy Graham told Green Car Reports, ‘Scout Motors confirms projected towing of over 7,000 pounds for the Scout Traveler and over 10,000 pounds for the Scout Terra, both with nearly 2,000 pounds of payload.’ “

So, when you say that towing numbers aren’t confirmed, sort of. They keep lowering it from when they first announced it. Is that what you mean by they haven’t confirmed it yet?? I’m happy for the people who don’t need it to tow. We have an old Airstream that we remodeled all by ourselves, so we need to have that towing capacity. I think you non-towing people will like the regular Terra and Traveler. I think when it comes time to be delivered, that a lot of people are going to drop the Harvester version. Just my prediction. That’s all.

This ^

I will add, no manufacturer has now on the market or a planned future product that tows 10,000 pounds and has a removable roof component.

Scout EV never had such a vehicle in mind either. The OP taking his marbles home in a huff and stating to Scout, "The ball is in your court", is pretty humorous. Sounds like the OP just decided not to wait and ordered a Rivian...
I’m so sorry that I offended you by dropping our reservations because Scout lied about the towing capacity of it (Scout’s engineers always knew they couldn’t do it!). I truly never meant to offend anyone’s feelings. I am sorry. But if you go back and reread what I posted, you will see that I left the door open for what you’re saying doesn’t exist. We know it doesn’t exist. That’s why we canceled our reservations. Using the Scout brand that had a removable roof, and then getting upset that the new Scout doesn’t have a removable roof, is a normal emotion. I don’t understand why this upset you. Why didn’t they just call the brand something else then? Don’t use the Scout brand and then get upset with me that it doesn’t look and function like a Scout! I’m hoping that by the 2030s, Scout will have this removable roof feature, can tow a lot for a long range and that looks retro. Again, I never meant to hurt anyone’s feelings. I’m sure you will love your new Scout EV when you get it! Again, I sincerely apologize for hurting your feelings.

BTW, the vehicle that we went and put a deposit down on is not an EV. So no, I did not get tired of waiting and go buy a Rivian. You are wrong again. And the ball IS in Scout’s court for them to make what their customer wants to buy. It’s impossible for the ball to be in my hands! I am not an executive at Scout making business decisions!

Lastly, I am not in a “huff” and took my “marbles” and went home. I’m excited about the vehicle that we’re getting in two months. I’m also excited that there’s a possibility that in the 2030s, Scout might have what we are wanting to buy.

All of your comments are very true. That is why we were excited about the 10,000 pound towing capacity when first announced. Perhaps by the 2030s they will be able to do it??

You forgot to mention the Cybertruck with the parts falling off as people drive. LOL. I live in a large metropolitan area, and I’ve seen a lot of of the Cybertrucks. But in the last year, I stopped seeing them. There’s millions of people here and I haven’t seen a Cybertruck for a year now! And people were paying $100,000 plus for them. I don’t think they’re gonna get their investment back.

I never tow, only haul. Payload is fine for my needs but I get how this could be a non starter for some folks. Maybe Scout will listen. I am somewhat tempted to switch to EV instead of EREV, but for now I’m keeping my Harvester reservation.

I don’t need to buy a truck. My 2014 Tundra has 150k miles and has a long life ahead of it still. But, I think the scout is cool and I would love something more efficient. At this point the biggest risk to me canceling my reservation is deciding to replace my Miata with a different sports car first. Then the truck would be a few years down the road.
wow! Your Miata should be a classic by now. I would hold onto it if it were me. There are a ton of used, sweet sports cars out there that you could look at. Unless you just want an EV.

Yes, I think that diesel trucks are still the best for towing. Maybe by the 2030s that will change.

LOL We already canceled. But why would you buy people‘s reservations when you could just put another reservation in? Are they limiting reservations per person??
