Got my 4R a few weeks ago and have 730miles, and love it so far. But when driving I hear a buzzing like noise when the windows are down, that’s coming from the engine bay.
it’s there on slight steady throttle but goes away when accelerating or off the pedal.
it sounds almost electrical buzz or crickets.
anyone else experience this or have an idea what’s it could be? Thought maybe a wastegate issue? Thanks!

I’m in the same boat as you, just shy of 900 miles in. I only notice it when the windows are down.

Toyota hasn't used a compressor that cycles on and off for a while now. They're all variable displacement compressors.

With my AC on, i can tell the engine RPM change. Not even looking for a change, I can hear and feel a “stutter”. I wouks expect not to experience that on a “variable” compressor.

Just left the dealership. Took the tech on a test ride to confirm and then rode in another one on the lot, which had the exact same sound. So appears to be normal. But its not clear what is producing the sound.

I guess that's good, maybe but keeps you guessing. Just because others have it, I hope the dealer does not clarify it as normal. They should have a way to channel that concern back to Toyota. Also, they should be able to get information on what subsystem is causing it.

I hate leaving things unsolved because they usually come back to bite you.

Good luck.... I'll be listening to mine with a little help from the wife. My ears are not so good due to another hobby :)

Totally agree. I pushed the tech on what’s causing it and they said everything checks out. At least I have it documented incase something else goes on.

haha I hear that, I almost left the dealership with new tire and wheel set up but decided I didn’t wanna get chewed out again haha.
