Installed this intake with high hopes of a clean and easy install. K&N does a great shop in r&d and fitment always seems on point. However, this wasn't entirely thr case with this new intake..I chose it over others for the full inlet replacement. Where those vacuum hoses all tie together is a mess, and the provided hose too small i.d to fit on. Seems like a few small hose clamps should be used here and there but arent. It was also missing a bolt to hold the airbox down. The holes in the lid of the airbox dont align with the airbox itself and took some effort (one shown in first pic).

Once installed it looks very nice, turbo noise in much increased at initial spool up. I like the aluminum flange that ties the turbo to intake they added. I've attached a few images from the process. I'll be looking for ways to better finish the vacuum lines though, those appear like a complete after thought from K&N.

Any questions feel free to ask. Kit does come with b/w install instructions, the website has them in color. The MAF orientation can be confusing and the wire is a little tight once in place.

2 bolts were easy, the next to were off enough they were very difficult to get started.

Completed install, does look very nice IMO.

K&N turbo airhorn installed.

Part throttle initial boost is the most noisy, the "dose" from no bov is fun too.

Oh, also I come from an import tuner background where typically each significant mod requires an tune. The numbers they're showing are pretty significant, which is good but how far does that throw off the air/fuel?

Import tuner background. I know this is a Taco forum but I'm interest in hearing what else you own? haha

All started in 2002.
I had a 1997 Prelude Type SH. Sold it and moved to a 2004 STi. Sold that and got a 2012 STi.

As do I, I would like to monitor afr but dont have anything setup at the moment. Im undecided on adding a tune as well, I try to leave the tinkering to the fun cars and not the daily, but sometimes cant help myself. I solely added this intake for something fun to do. I used to tune my dsms, subarus, bmw, and as of now LS based vehicles. With the BMW anyway the computer could handle significant afr and timing needs compared to how things started with the DSMs. I expect the new Toyota to be similar.

I had a 97 Lude as well. haha These trucks are not as bad as adding parts to subies. I have a good amount of Subaru back ground as well. You can't even add a new shift knob with out getting a tune for them. lol

If you're considering a intake for your new Tacoma check ours out as well. If you ever need any parts from us feel free to message me. I can get you better prices than what's listed on our site.
