Looks to me like an alternator on my Hybrid, tought they had an electric motor generator only?

Pics or it didn't happen.

Are yours the same?

Thanks

Certainly looks like the alternator in my non hybrid OR! Since the hybrid system bolts in between the output of the engine, and input of the tranny, the motors are just built the same as non hybrids to simplify builds. Meaning you got the alternator. At least this is a guess on my part.

That's definitely an alternator. It might use it to keep the 12v system charged up when the hybrid battery is low. That's just speculation though. You don't see them in any of the other toyota hybrids.

The truck has a 12v battery under the seat and the ECU all use the 12v system independent of the hybrid systems. And the alternator is required; it has a generator to start the truck and charge the hybrid battery. apparently, there's a backup starter, but my truck never tried to use it after system drained.

it does not have a traditional starter motor it's a generator system used to start the truck and charge the hybrid battery
It’s impossible to get a picture of it, but the truck indeed has two starters, it’s explained that the truck uses the normal starter after fuel up only

There were people complaining the truck would die within 3 days of sitting, I wonder if they don't have an alternator, not that it would charge it while off lmao

My truck did not start after 4 days sitting it has an alternator; it never tried to use the backup starter motor :) voltage after 4days was 10.5 and did not even attempt to turn over, all kinds of lights on the dash and funky electric things going on like one headlight on one off etc.

The normal starter is only for hydro locking or something they say the hybrid motor will power through any hydro lock that COULD possibly happen during a fuel up and completely destroy the engine, so it wouldn’t engage if you didn’t fill up, that being said, I don’t know if I’ve ever heard mine but I never had the windows down after getting fuel yet since it’s been cold as hell since I got my truck

I want to test putting a tender on the 12v overnight and see if any overflow runs into the high voltage battery I don’t think that makes sense but I don’t think anyone has answered how to put a tender on these trucks yet

that could be interesting to try and put a tender on it, never thought I would need to with the hybrid battery and 12v battery, but it might need to for longer than 3-4 days, I am pretty sure we could put a tender under the hood on the positive battery post there.

Something is wrong if it can't sit for more than a couple days. You have some sort of parasitic draw. Mine regularly sits for a week or more at a time in the airport parking lot.

I have heard of people using the app to remote start their truck every now and then if they're away for a month or more just to top up the battery and get some fuel moving through the lines.
