Like many my 2024 Off Road does not have a brake controller.
I am considering a 2060 lb (dry weight) camper to travel with.
I would be towing in "sport mode" at best with a manual transmission.
I've looked at all the posts and want to conclude that this is a bad idea, true?

The 2024 doesn't have the plug included in the harness in the 2024 or 2025 tacoma for a brake controller. I just installed the tekonsha wireless controller yesterday. It's pricey but better than the Kurt wireless which you control with I phone. The tekonsha wireless has a handheld controller which I feel more secure with. You should have a brake controller and watch you tube videos on how to use it, for instance, if you experience sway, you apply trailer brakes before truck brakes. You have to screw the controller into the trailer frame which I was worried about but miraculously, the holes were already in mine. I guess the trailer dealership put my travel trailer on a frame someone had before that had the same controller. Damn was I happy. But yes, you should definitely have a brake controller.

Here's a whole thread on the topic: https://www.tacoma4g.com/forum/threads/brake-controller-harness-for-4th-gen-tacoma.2433/

Yes it is a bad idea. Unless you are just pulling some light utility trailer it is not recommended to not use a brake controller.
