Motortrend recently published an article on the possible repeal of the federal EV tax credit and the reactions/expectations from auto manufacturers. I'm impressed with Scout's patriotic, confident and bullish words on possibly losing the EV tax credit.

Will Anyone Buy an EV Without Incentives? We're Probably Going to Find Out
The $7,500 federal EV incentive's days might be numbered. We look at the potential ramifications.

Article: https://www.motortrend.com/features/no-more-federal-incentives-for-evs-issues-concerns/

In the article, Scout Motors has some strong thoughts on the subject:
  • “Scout Motors’ mission of designing, engineering, and building vehicles in the United States, and creating thousands of good-paying jobs, is the right thing to do. It was the right decision when we made it in 2022, and it is the right decision for our future customers and the country. That’s something we can all agree on and get behind.
  • “Scout Motors is here to stay. You can’t plan a strategic business case on how a government moves or doesn’t move. You need a business case built on: 'Are we making a really cool product that a customer wants to buy at a fair price?' That's what we’re doing. That said, the tax incentives that help companies who are choosing to manufacture great products here in the United States are important for our business. Repealing these tax incentives could have a significantly negative impact on American innovation, American job creation, and the growth of Scout Motors.”

I am all in on my Scout order. Assumed EV tax credits would not be around by 2028(ish). EV tech should continue to drop in cost (relatively due to economies of scale) and ALL vehicles will cost more. Looking for reduced operating costs to help finance my transition to EV. PS: Scout’s comment’s about American manufacturing and their focus on product/ customer are also important reasons for my support.

I have yet to purchase an EV, but I'll take any break I can get! Am hoping Scout's strategy and planning can keep the dream alive.

I will most likely buy with or without the tax incentive (as long as the promises are mostly kept by Scout and if the price doesn't get "crazy")...
As a former Cybertruck reservation holder, who withdrew his order when Tesla announced higher prices and shorter range, I think the same.

Let's look at reality as n 2026 Hyundai is releasing a XRT palisades probably under 60 k for top trim hybrid 600 mile range. So Scout to be successful needs to know its competitors and deliver my hope is regardless of the idiots decisions in Washington I am all in at 60 to 65 if we get into Rivian numbers I'm not.

I'm not eligible under the current EV tax credit so my decision on purchasing a Scout EV is not affected by this factor. If the tax credit were revised so I am eligible, it would further incentivize my purchase of a new EV (rather than looking at low-mileage, gently used EVs that are priced significantly lower due to resale degradation and first buyer (or lease) tax credit applied.

I suspect a lot of early adopters are not eligible for the old credits. I recall, when I still had my day job - a few of the office people got free EV's. Essentially street legal golf carts - but free for them. Even then, the large print giveth, and the small print taketh away. No great loss anyway, they ended up being chineese vehicles that ended up being unrepairable due to lack of spare parts afterwards.

Still waiting to get an electric golf cart though. Probably next year while I am waiting for a Scout.

Here's the individual qualification requirements for the current EV tax credits on the IRS site.
You may qualify for a credit up to $7,500 under Internal Revenue Code Section 30D if you buy a new, qualified plug-in EV or fuel cell electric vehicle (FCV). The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 changed the rules for this credit for vehicles purchased from 2023 to 2032.

The credit is available to individuals and their businesses.

To qualify, you must:
  • Buy it for your own use, not for resale
  • Use it primarily in the U.S.
In addition, your modified adjusted gross income (AGI) may not exceed:
  • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly or a surviving spouse
  • $225,000 for heads of households
  • $150,000 for all other filers

Scout is committed. They are far enough along that they are not going away anytime soon. What comes rolling off the line in three years may not be what they are advertising now, but they will have something to sell.
