Just a thought about Toyota and other manufacturers. All these 360 camera systems and there is no way to save all this video on a memoRichard.

The digital rear view mirror should have a forward facing camera as well. Then a memory card to save both the forward and aft views.

I think it is a big ole swing and miss personally.

Richard.

I’ve been saying same thing for as long as those cameras have been around! With all those cameras, why do we need dash cams? Surely those systems could overlap as a dash cam and save to a SD card…. You’d think someone in the aftermarket could figure out how to set it up.

Nah...done purposefully so the next model year can have updated tech to make you trade.

I think it's a Tesla patent that holds a lot of manufacturers back from implementing this.

Really ? That's interesting - didn't know that.

Not to say it wouldn't be possible in the aftermarket world, but yeah - as a factory option, I haven't seen any other manufacturer implement it as Tesla has. I just assumed it was due to a patent on it.

Nonetheless, the cameras that come with most cars, including Toyota, are quite low resolution. Even if you were to use them for dashcam like purposes .... the resolution would be much lower than the quality we are used to on higher quality cameras.

I doubt it. Elon has said that he has allowed all of the other car companies to use Teslas patents free of charge.
