Yeah @Ray T It really could be a new problem with the transmission. I am in the transmission TSB VIN range and my truck does not do that, but it sounds like more than a few do.

It seems like another first year issue that Toyota needs to figure out. I am also a long time Toyota owner and I trust them to sort this out eventually.

So glad it's not just me. I know exactly what you're experiencing. I don't think it's really about speed. But it won't shift into a high enough gear below that sleed I guess. The truck will be in a high gear at around 1250 rpm and while giving it gas it will try to hold that gear as much as possible and you can notice the truck will use all battery and turbo to give enough power and hold that gear. I think it was designed like this because people hated the gear hunting in the 3rd gen.

But definitely a certain range in the gearing where is shakes/ stumbles. Pretty darn noticeable and annoying.

@radbrad I was also thinking it might be shift related rather than vehicle speed. My transmission sometimes makes a rumble noise/vibration when downshifting, particularly in lower gears. This could be a similar thing when it shifts into higher gears in your truck. Mine does not do it all the time, but other trucks have bad shifts almost every time they shift in/out of 1st and 2nd gears. Mine mostly shifts into reverse just fine, but sometimes it shifts so hard it feels like you ran over something.

I think all these symptoms are caused by damaged shift solenoids, which have not failed, but don't work correctly.

There have been a lot of complaints about the OEM roof rack. I wonder how many other Pro owners with this problem have a roof rack too?

I have a limited hybrid and I think I've noticed similar to the point that I was contemplating if I should make a post about it.

For me, if I've got the truck in the 38-40mpg zone, it's got a noticably rough transmission spot. Below that and above that, smooth as glass and beautiful.

An I worried it's any kind of issue? 100% no.
I suspect that's it's just a small window where the computer is struggling to determine whether to shift down and rev up or shift up and rev down.

And that if I crossed through that zone under harder or softer effort, might not notice, but I happen to have just the right load pressure that it becomes a bit indecisive. Sensation for me is like a really rough idle.

I equate it similarly to a 5-speed automatic Toyota I have where the shifting is wonderful, but if I apply or back off the accelerater "just right", the shift from first to second gear is very rough. In 20y of owning that vehicle, never I've been an issue other than the annoyance when conditions are perfect and I happen to trip that wire.

In this case, there are a lot of systems the ECU is working to coordinate: engine rev, turbo usage, transmission gearing, whether to apply battery power or use the electric motor for regen braking. That's quite the condition matrix to traverse.

I'm wondering and hoping it'll settles out as the engine and transmission break in.
If you have a manual transmission, hold off on upshifting for another 5mph… same
With the automatic, manually make upshifts and find out if “holding the gear” for another 5 mph, eliminates the problem../

I am just back from a couple hours in my Pro, and my truck has no roughness at any speed. It is as smooth around 40 as it is everywhere else.

So I think the trucks that are doing this need to go to the dealer for diagnostics and hopefully a repair. Whether it is, the transmission, wheels, or driveshaft - something is clearly not right.

My hybrid trailhunter doesn’t shake at 40 but the engine randomly gets loud / rougher than normal and no idea why. So far it is not bad enough that it bothers me.
