Hello All,

Scout at CES showed an under carriage camera feed like this while underway at the 14:40 minute mark:

At time 14:40 minutes in the video.

While I know its a prototype, as stated in the video by Dre, it brings up several questions:

1. What is the resolution? It looks good in the video and hopefully 4K.

2. Any night vision capability? At night, camping or any other scenario with low light, you might be stuck on something or want to check clearance before going forward.

3. Ability to record it in Vehicle and to the cloud and access it remotely? Subscription fee?

4. Ability to rotate it or change the view?

BUT THE BIGGEST QUESTION OF ALL IS THIS:

How could you possibly keep a camera there clean? It would be great to view until the first mud puddle splash!

Would it be in protective housing to not get damaged?

Would there be a 'washer nozzle' to clean it or its outer housing on demand? You would have a hell of a time cleaning it manually.

Volvo and Mercedes and others have had this on headlights but not cameras.

How about a wiper? Mercedes has done this on headlights and perhaps others, I don't remember, but then the wiper arm may get caught on just about anything, especially off road.

I really like the Cameras (4K and multiple, including 3 in each side mirror on Rivians) on Rivians and Tesla's. Sentry Mode/Gear Guard and recording underway always in case of incident or accident or when something interesting happens (shooting star, Sasquatch!) so I hope Scout it considering this. I like the channels "Wham Bam Teslacam" and "Wham Bam Dashcam". I have no affiliation with them but watch them weekly.

I hope they consider a cabin camera and cameras in at least 4 directions while underway. More is better as Solid State Memory (after Tariffs end, if they ever do) should be more plentiful, larger and less expensive. A forward facing Telephoto camera is very helpful in recording license plates and details. Also, in cabin microphone is helpful in speaking a license plate out loud in case the camera can't or doesn't pick it up well. Teslas have no in cabin audio recording capability and are only 1K, while Rivian Gen2 are 4K.

Keeping all cameras clean is a problem, even on the rental car I just had, a Volvo XC40 in Texas. I had to manually wipe off the backup camera to keep it clear multiple times during the week I drove it. Easy to do in this position but under the vehicle it would not be.

An innovative solution to this by Scout would be industry leading.

Cheers

L

Unkown. Most car companies that have implemented that have placed it in the rear view mirror. However, Rivian has a ‘bed camera’. I’m sure others do also.

Could put it in the screen but more useful underway in the rear view mirror as a selection, whether ‘rocking’ the lever on the old style manual mirrors from ‘daylight’ to night (in this case regular rear view mirror to camera view) or a separate button.

I know I showed this feature in an EV9 to my wife and it changes visual focus from the focal length of the reflected image to your rear in the mirror to the ‘screen’ 1-1.5 feet in front of you. Wife did not like this effect. Wasn’t what her brain expected.
