I also have the TH and I’ve narrowed down what this noise is coming from quite a bit. It drives me absolutely insane and there is seemingly no solution. It almost sounds like electrical interference?

You can only hear the noise when the engine is running. It only stops when the engine is not running and the truck is in park or at a full stop.

it is not pedestrian warning sound (AVAS)

I actually bought a Carista and the app to see if it was the fake engine noise or noise canceling. I toggled both off and it was not.

It’s been to the dealer twice and they have said “it’s just the noise hybrids make”. I even test drove another Tacoma hybrid and it made the same noise.

My best guess is that it’s just the hybrid motor charging or running and that the placement of that motor in the trucks makes it much louder in the cabin.

It really sucks and I’d love to find a solution. I’m honestly considering trading the truck in because of how much it bothers me.

first half the video is the noise in question (engine running) then it shuts off (engine off)

Hmmm... I can't really hear much difference between the first and second half, but capturing ambient noise on a phone is pretty tough.

I don't notice any noises that bother me from my truck, but I am usually listening to music when I drive, so that could be the reason.

I know it isn't "the sound hybrids make" because I recently drove a Camry hybrid for a few days and it didn't have this noise.

Yeah - Toyota dealers are way to ready to pass off anything that we find with our trucks as normal IMO.

Does your truck also make this noise @MrB4D? Maybe it is specific to just a TH? It must be bad if @skipjacknewport is thinking of trading in his truck.

I dont really hear anything weird on my TH other than the regenerative brakes when I'm slowing down but I also dont really hear anything in that video.

Well, there you go, it seems to be inherent to the truck design.
I listened several times and believe I heard the noise your referring to but it's too faint to really pinpoint it. I'd like to know under what conditions does the noise happen? All the time? Is the engine running and so on.

I rent hybrid Camrys and Rav4s all the time for work. Every now and then I hear what you're talking about from them but it's maybe 1 in 10 or less. No consistency as far as mileage or trim. I imagine it's the regenerative braking or something to do with it. I have not heard it from my own Tacoma.

They ought to at least let you set the sound to something you like.

An owl hooting, sheep squealing (for rednecks from OKLAHOMA), favorite rock song, etc.

It’s is only when the engine is running. It stops only when the engine is off and the truck is in park or at a full stop.

Yeah music definitely helps drown it out. Also driving at faster speeds road noise seems to drown it out.

Ya. I have a recording of it on the first page, and a plot that shows the frequency (to compare to the pedestrian warning sounds).

I've also been able to get the noise when the stopped with engine off by releasing a little pressure on the brake. It is as if the inverter is commanding torque from the MG to prepare for idle.

Edit: Speeling mistak

Don’t really hear anything that bothers me in my truck. A little bit of the hybrid system working but that’s it.. of course I usually have Pink Floyd cranking when I’m cruising
