Is the 2.4L i-Force Engine a brand new engine?

As the title says, is this a brand new engine or has it been around in any Toyota or Lexus models?

It is also in at least a couple Lexus models (nx250,rx250). YouTube reviews on these plus the Highlander that uses it, give great reviews as well as the performance with the 8 speed. They say it is very torqy and responsive. It does sound a bit different, but that is to be expected.

Just throwing this in here: heard today on the Car Care Nut YouTube interview that while the engine is shared with other models, only 56% of it was kept. Don’t know what is different, but the other 44% is specific to the taco. I would imagine they needed to beef it up a bit for towing and GVWR and such though over, say, the Highlander.
