The switchgear feels just fine. I think the 4WD shifter is a little quirky in my opinion, and the radio volume knob is small and without any kind of grippy material. Otherwise, I like how everything feels and functions. Its not as bad as your thinking.

Same here, Toyota OEM Filters (90915-YZZN1) I ordered directly from a dealer. Pretty cheap too, around 4-5 bucks, using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-20. I changed mine @ 1K Miles, will change @ 2, then 5, and every 5K from there on out.

I'd say get it a try yourself. It wasn't too difficult, I didn't even have to put my floor jack under the Tacoma as I did with my Silverado.
