Kjc - here are some pictures from the final install.
The original (clear) reducer from Amazon on the left, painted black, and inserted in the MX4 drain tube. I thought about using some sealer but it was a tight fit and I got 5-6 ribs of the tube on so didn't see the need.
The reducer is...
I can't confirm it yet, but wondered if null shows up after authentication expires. Even if I sign in again, it still shows null so looks like an embarrassing bug.
Kjc - do you happen to have a link for the hose reducers you used or did you happen to have some on hand already?
I have these from Amazon which I can make work. I couldn't find any in black so was going to paint them. I may have to trim them a bit to work perfectly but they'll work.
If you...
From the pics, it looks like it is set up right.
I managed to get the front 2 clamps positioned so they don't interfere with the cover bolt knobs and are still holding the cover and rail together.
5/8 inch to 1/4 inch barb reducer for the drain tubes was my plan as well and should arrive...
Kjc - To add a little to what Tekoma and bsquaredMTB said, see my post #128 in this thread for more pictures and what I learned in the process. The three of us have had similar experiences with the MX4 and learned the hard way what wasn't called out in the instructions very well.
Key points...
jmarion713 Thanks for the pics - very helpful.
Like bsquaredMTB said, it looks like the drain tube reducer at the rail allows for a 1/4 inch OD tube so the tube can go in the stock 1/4 inch drain holes in the bed.
The MX4 tubes are 5/8" in diameter which is why they say to drill out the drain...
Tekoma - many thanks for this! I moved my front clamps just like it shows.
Does seem a little odd they tell you to do that instead of putting the outside half of the clamp through the slot in the tab like in thee 16-23 instructions but since it's just a clamp, either way works.
bsquaredMTB - looks great! I can only guess but maybe the clamps on the side rails are not positioned exactly right to give the rails the stiffness you want. It's only a guess as I didn't have that issue.
Here is my experience with the BAKflip MX4 installation on my 2024 TRD Sport.
Although I...
Ruissimo - ignore what I said about the spray-in bed liner - it's not a problem.
I just finished making some final adjustments and got everything to fit just right. The main problem was that the clamp (part G in step 5 of the 16-23 instructions) at the cab end of the rail interferes with the...
Just to be clear, I'm not 100% sure that causes a problem. It's mostly a theory because the fit is so tight (a good thing) and I need like a 1/4" of extra space to finish adjustments.
That's also why I want to see the 2024 instructions to see if they call out something I missed.
Stitman37 - could you post or upload the 24 instructions? They aren't on the RealTruck product page yet and I'm wondering if they would solve some of the installation challenges I had when installing mine yesterday (mine also came with the 16-23 instructions). I haven't been able to find them...
webshot - thanks, that's good to hear. Especially if the OEM is the BAKflip MX4.
I did get an order update today that they expect to fulfill my MX4 order on or before 7/3. Hopefully that means it's delivered somewhere around mid-July, maybe sooner. I'm guessing BAK is either ramping up...
Thanks webshot - same experience with RealTruck/BAK Industries I'm having. Lack of any info on if it's in manufacturing, in inventory, in pre-order or what. I noticed it isn't available on Amazon yet which should have been my first clue fulfillment would be delayed since they enforce shipping...
webshot, TRD_Rob - Did you happen to order from RealTruck? I ordered mine almost two weeks ago but support can't give a date yet for when they'll ship. Starting to wonder if orders talk to manufacturing given it's all part of the same company.
Thanks to MT-Taco for the note on https://www.bobsmirrors.com as that led to just what I was looking for.
A little over a week ago, I reached out to them to see if they had a HomeLink mirror for the 2024 Tacoma since nothing was listed on the site yet. I ended up trading email with Bob and...
