Someone mentioned this a while back, but I just heard from a reliable source that Cartels are helping themselves to truckloads of Tacomas coming out of Guanajuato. Toyota is rerouting shipments through a safer and longer route. I didn’t find out where. This would certainly explain delays, and Toyota would probably rather chalk it up to a QC hold instead of theft, or say nothing at all.

Unfortunately even the bad guys appreciate a good truck. Before retiring, second time 🤪, I would travel to Africa several times a year. Places like Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Nigeria, etc. Needless to say not first world places. I would see an amazing number of old Tacos and their sister Hilux trucks. These vehicles were missing doors, seats ripped out, and every form of damage you could imagine, but they were still running strong. Add to that the hot dusty climate and I doubt the operators were doing 10k mile oil changes like how those of us on this site treat our princesses. In short it’s unbelievable how much these things can take and still run. It makes sense then that new Tacos would be highly desirable to cartels running drugs and sadly people through and across the desert.

Our tax dollars buy Tacoma's and other Toyota trucks to blend in overseas.

Special Forces use Tacoma's and Hilux trucks.

First gulf war, our generals moved around in armored Toyota Land Cruisers.
