Just got my new 4th gen, swapped over my 1up SD rack for my bikes. It appears that the hitch receiver is mounted further underneath the truck in relation to the tailgate itself on this new gen ... long story short, even with the bike rack backed out as far as it can go in the receiver, there is questionable handlebar overlap with the tailgate. This matters more if you want to put a cap on.

On my previous 2nd gen I had a mid-rise LEER cap and never had any contact with the rear window, however I just dry fit an Alucab and the vertical rear window will 100% be smashed by the handlebar after the first bump. Guess Im looking at the smart-cap with a more angled rear window to gain some clearance

I was interested in this canopy so this is very useful info. Do you think there would be enough room to use a tailgate pad with this canopy if you left the rear window open?

No idea but I doubt it, I tried that once with an old canopy and it was a massive headache to try to get them in and out

This can be a general issue with all caps. My Leer cap has not arrived yet, but am working out the fit of my Kuat rack ahead of time. I will probably arrange my wife’s bike toward the bed as it has narrower handlebars. Mine would def overlap past the tailgate. If even that does not work, either a Kuat or 3rd party hitch extensions of about 7”.

This is a little off topic, but I hope not by too much. I just got my new TRD Off Road, and haven't put my 1UPUSA rack on it yet. Do you have a routine for disabling towing aids, backup alarms, etc?

I just turn off only PKBS (Parking Assistance Braking Support). Still beeps at me in reverse but no sudden stops and the front parking assistance still works. The tone can be temporary turned off but will come back on next time you go into reverse. You will also get a warning each time you start the truck reminding you this is off.

Cross traffic alert still seems to give valid cross traffic detection.

Others may have different approaches.

This is true, however it surprised me coming from my 2nd gen, with a LEER cap, and having ZERO issues with handlebar contact. I didnt have the rack pulled all the way out of the receiver, and even with my larger bike (wider bars) closest to the truck never came close to to contact. it seems like there is a definite change to where the receiver is located relative to the tailgate, and I suspect people are going to have more issues with caps with 4th gen.

Regarding the hitch extender, I considered that, but wow is it ugly AF and kind of defeats the purpose of how snug to the bumper the rack can be when in the upright position - part of what I like about it is being able to park the truck normally because it isnt adding almost any length

agreed, turned off PKBS so it would stop sudden braking on me, the cross traffic warnings seem pretty good even when the bikes are on there. annoyingly every time I drive it will intermittently have a "PKBS turned off" warning that overlays the dash, and a "trailer detected" warning overlaying the dash. cant seem to find a way to stop those from coming up, although there should definitely be some sort of hitch rack setting that removes those.

Yep, PKSB needs to be switched off. When it beeps while backing up, just tap the speaker icon on the screen to mute it.

After installing my 1UP I shut off the PKSB
