Good afternoon guys/gals! I’m proud to say I’ve just bought my first vehicle and it is a 2024 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. With that being said, I’ve already started planning on how I want to build it out from here (if I do anything at all, still undecided). My main question is, for those of you that have installed the Westcott Designs precollar lift (2.5” front, .75” back) and +25mm offset wheels, are you able to run 285/75/17r tires without making body mods? Total diameter of the tires I’m looking at range from 33.86”-34.1”. I don’t mind taking off the support brackets up front if I have to, but I would definitely prefer leaving them on to keep things clean looking to my eye. I don’t want to have to worry about rubbing anytime I go off road and cut the wheel though. I prefer the look of the +25 offset over the +35 offset, but I did see a video from Westcott Designs that said the 35mm offset does NOT require that you remove the brackets up front which is nice. Pictures of your set ups would be greatly appreciated though, I might just change my mind!

You'll be fine even without that collar lift. If you plan on doing any actual off-roading, stay away from the collar lifts, save up for an lift kit.

I’m definitely still on the fence about the collar lift. I’ve seen a lot of people running 285/70/17s with stock suspension and 25 or 35mm offset without any rubbing and I’m starting to lean more toward that route than the collar lift and 34’s. I do like the look the lifts give though.

Don’t do it!

Let me start of by saying that I am a firm believer in the buy once, cry once principal. I tried to go cheap and it ended up biting me in the end. Here is what happened.

Soon after my 2024 Tacoma OR purchase I had a shop install a set of 285/75/17 Falcon Wild Peak’s on 17” X 8.5” Method rims. I also had the shop install a Westcott lift kit.

My truck looked great but now the ride was very floaty due to the tall 75 tires, the front suspension was too stiff and the spacer limited front suspension travel.

Not being satisfied I ended up installing a set of 275/70/17 Nitto G3’s. I also had a shop remove the Westcott lift kit and install a set of Camburg billet UCA’s and premium King 2.5” adjustable coil-over shocks up front and a set of adjustable King shocks with end links at the rear.

The ride quality is now exactly what I was after. it’s a night and day difference in ride quality. The truck now floats over speed bumps, soaks up potholes without a sweat and handles off-road whoop-de-doo’s like a champ.

Not spending the money up front for a set of premium shocks ended up costing me roughly $1500 in the end. Chalk it up to a lesson learned the hard way.

The ride was what I was most curious about, so thank you for that response! You’ve convinced me to steer clear of the collar lifts. I’m now looking at ordering the method 703’s (+35mm offset) and a good set of 285/70/17 tires. I’m leaning toward the BFG KO3’s right now, but I’m not completely sold. I think I’ll be happier going this route! Thanks again for the help!
