Android Auto / Waze shows up only sometimes

Sometimes Android auto and Waze will start automatically, sometimes it doesn't. I have Bluetooth on, both apps are installed and running. Sometimes neither shows up on my Tacoma display. What am I doing wrong?

Tom, I had a similar issue. I resolved mine by going into my android auto settings on my S23: go to settings, connections, then find android auto. Make sure the "start android auto while locked" is turned on. Evidently, otherwise it won't connect to your phone if the screen is locked. Hope this helps.

I also had problems until I disabled battery optimizations on the toyota app and let it run in the backgrouind.

turns out samsung decided I didnt need that app and was killing it "to save battery".
