Thinking about rewiring the whole fang lights. Keeping the yellow wire on the drl/turnsignal and wiring the rest into a switch in the truck so I could use it for fog lights. Anyone did it yet? I just didn’t like how the fang lights turn on randomly.

Im thinking about making my own set of “Fang Lights” (maybe Feniex emergency lights or Baja Squadrons). I was going to order another set of covers to create some sort of housing. $54 each isn’t too crazy but it’s not great either. Does anyone know how to get parts like this cheaper? Just curious.

***I am not mechanically inclined. I have a career in healthcare and I do not have any experience working on cars. I am very good at watching videos and googling.***

I ordered them (Amazon) and installed them. Initially was gonna try to just get the OEM part out without taking off the bumper, but it was just too difficult. I ended up watching a Diode Dynamics video as reference and it was easy enough to remove. I did have to buy a 10mm socket, socket extensions, and a moving blanket to complete the task.
The lights didn’t come with any instructions, but I did find the Trumgeta video on YouTube and used it as reference for wiring it up. Take screen shots of the install points. It helps.
I didn’t like the how bright white the LED portions of the lights looked. They stood out way too much. So I ended up tinting them with plastidip (smoke). Looks more OEM and doesn’t really affect light output. Looks like the version from Tacoma Lifestyle version, just without the $150 (+tax) price. Possibly half the price, if you source your materials right or have tools on hand.
I used wire loom, zip ties, and adhesive cable mounts to clean it all up. Also, some liquid electrical tape (basically a bottle of plastidip) for the wire install points.
I’m pretty happy with the resulting outcome. I’m seeing more 4th gen Tacomas on the road and would rather somewhat individualize mine and this definitely helps.

Anyone having issues with the fang lights coming on when the truck is completely off & locked?
I talked to the seller, and I have run the red power to the INJ, IGN and his last recommendation was to try the Shutter. They still come on when completely off.

Anyone know what else to try?

If you read through any of the threads on fang lights and whatnot you'll find that's common to all the 4G Tacomas. The truck seems to have a wake-up routine every so often to purge the EVAP or something. Why all the circuits wake up is an open question. It seems inefficient and will eventually drain the battery (unless the truck stops the foolishness when the battery voltage reaches a certain point).

Regardless, to your point, no one seems to have found a circuit that's not affected yet, at least none in the threads I've read. In any case, if it really bothers you, it seems the only solution is to put any aux lights and whatnot on their own switched circuit and turn them on and off manually. That might seem like a hassle but I have enough extra items that I purchased a gang switch similar to this and have all my extra circuits on it. I turn it on every time I get in the truck and at this point it's second nature. Push the start button and push the button on the switch panel and drive off...

The problem is the kit you bought. It requires you to use an add a fuse. And you may have plugged into a fuse that does turn on even while the truck is off.

The other kits just plug directly into the DRL and turn signal harness. Only turns on when those are on. No issues with random on/offs.

search for the trumgeta install video.

I would suggest not buying the Tacoma Lifestyle kit. It’s overpriced for what it is. They all function the same but just behind a different name.
These are my cheap amazon versions that I installed myself. I tinted them myself also. The white LED bars were just too much. Needed a more oem look.
They look and function just like the Toyota Lifestyle version. In all, probably about $80-90 spent including the tint.

So what i need to do is find the wire that runs the truck DRL's and connect the red there or find the pink wire as shawn in the video. Right? Thanks, Rob

Watch this video. It does show you where to connect the red wire. It’s a harness in the front. Easily accessible. The video shows ground being connected to a place only accessible by taking off the bumper, but you can pretty much ground anywhere.

I suppose if you don’t have the pins, like this kit, then you can just use wire taps to the same wires.
