I know the i4s of the modern world are noisy and always ticking injectors, lifters blah blah blah, I'm well used to that sound owning i4s all these year, but this is a new concerning one for me.

Notice it on and off, finally was able to get a video of it, definitely not the same ol' tickin noise I'm used to in i4s, gets quicker with engine revs, really prominent when it's happening, but it's not always happening.

Cause for concern? Thoughts?

My next service is soon so I'll bring it up to them, attempt to get the video to them so they can hear it themselves instead of relying on them trying to replicate it.

Oil level is fine, looks clean, engines running just fine. I know because I just had to check it. Appears I have a slightly leaky oil filter too which gave me a heart attack a couple days ago seeing oil drops on the fresh snow, thought for sure my last adventure out snow running done the pan in lol.

My first thought is that these engines have two fuel injection systems, port and direct. In some situations they use one or the other and sometimes both. So that might be why you hear different sound levels sometimes and not at others.

These are noisy engines and Toyota should have put hood blankets on all trims, but they didn't. If you don't have under hood sound insulation adding that might help.

Interesting... I just picked up my TH this weekend and took it to the dealer a couple days later for similar ticking. For me, the clatter happens about 60 seconds after starting (cold) and goes away when warm. The dealer said it is high pressure fuel pump, completely normal. I'm skeptical... my brother's TH doesn't make same ticking sound.

Interesting. I figured it was normal. Don't get me wrong, I hit the limiter more times than most corvette owners do but I do take care of my girl and keep up with the service schedule 😂

As much as it may be normal, it sounds god awful. For me, it happens intermittently. Cold, warm, doesn't matter. There's been a couple times I've parked on side of my buddy in his Tacoma to have a chat and all we hear is tick tick tick tick tick. If I wanted that, I'd buy a ram with lifter tick 😂
