What is up Taco crew! I’ve been reading a lot of the your threads & forums over the past month and finally decided to jump in on the fun.
Although I’ve always been part of the Toyota family (1st car Lexus SC300, 2nd Scion TC, 3rd Lexus IS350 Fsport), this is my first truck and Tacoma. I’ve been a fan since the 3rd gen, but seeing the 4th gen Trailhunter and TRD Pro finally pushed me over the edge. To be honest, I was going to go with the TRD Pro, but those darn seats… those seats would not allow me to put my 2 year old’s car seat in the back comfortably. So, I picked up my ‘24 Bronze Oxide 6ft. Trailhunter on Valentine’s Day, and I can say that I do NOT regret my decision.
I love everything about it. The height, the color (Bronze Oxide), the interior, the quickness, the camera system, and yes… even the “Snorkel.”
I will say, I was like a lot of you when I first heard the engine was going to be a 4 banger. I even went to a couple dealerships to possibly buy the 3rd gen, but I’m glad I didn’t go that route. We’ll see how I feel 5 years from now (reliability-wise), but I put my trust in Toyota. I keep my cars for a fairly long time, an average of 7 years.
Enough about me… let’s talk about my 6’ Dragonhunter and some of the mods I’ve purchased and plan on doing:
1) Retrax ProXR Tonneau Cover (installed) - this car is my daily and a bed cover was a non-negotiable for a ton of reasons. Unfortunately, the ARB sport rack currently doesn’t integrate with any cover available, so I sold it and used the funds for the cover.
2) UpTop Overland Kilo Roof Rack (ordered)
3) UpTop Overland Truss Bed Rack - Mid-Height (ordered)
4) Snowboard Rack for Bed Rack - looking for recommendations (future)
5) KUAT Piston SR Bike Rack (future)
6) AlphaRex Taillights (future)
7) Cali-Raised 42” Slim Light Bar (future)
8) Beefier tires that do not rub with stock wheels and suspension - looking for recommendations (future)
Overall uses for vehicle = grocery-mobile, daycare chauffeur, trips to Big Bear and Mammoth mountain, light camping/offroading, and hunting mythical creatures.
I’ll update the post with pictures of the updates as soon as they come in, but here are the initial pics at the dealership and post-bed cover installed.
The adventure begins!
