I just got my truck and was walking around in the bed to check everything out. I noticed a popping noise coming from the truck bed, but wasn’t sure what it was. I checked the spare tire, it looks tight. I also looked beneath the truck to see if anything looks out of the ordinary, but I didn’t see anything other than a hole that “might” be missing a bolt but not sure.
I decided to walk around on it some more, and it seems like the only place it happens is near the tail gate in the center. It sounds to me like the bed is bowed up, me standing on it compresses it down, and the pop sound I'm hearing is from it unsticking from whatever is below after the weight is released. Is this normal? It’s similar to a hardwood or laminate floor where there’s a tight area that bows up a bit, and when you step on it, it makes a pop/unsticking noise after you remove your foot.
