Sorry to hear the roller bearings in the cover are giving you a hard time. Typically the Retrax covers are bombproof without nearly any maintenance.

If you are looking for a more robust rack solution check out our bed racks: https://gettrukd.com/

Thanks for the rack recommendation. I don't do any heavy duty offroading or any camping that would require a roof top tent, so I didn't look into anything too robust. I use the rack mainly for paddleboards/kayaks and the occasional lumber/ladder DIY projects.

I'll keep these in mind. I like the Retrax cover and like the Yakima Overhaul HD for my needs, but if I ever change it up, I'd look for a rack that doesn't require the t-slot, as I think that's a weak point. Not sure if there's a rack that doesn't require the t-slot AND still use the Retrax cover, but that's what I'd look for next.

As I said, I think the polycarbonate long term is eventually going to crack, so I decided I would look at the RetraxPro to avoid that issue in the future. However, the roller bearing issue has me concerned. Maybe I just have bad luck and got a lemon, or maybe my setup was prone to have standing water in the rail channels that cause the rusting/seizing?? Worse case, I'll just need to do annual/semi annual checks on the bearings in the future.

I'll also note that when I contacted Retrax they offered a prorated warranty replacement of the cover/canister (no rails included). I was quoted $425ish shipped for the RetraxOne replacement. I asked if I could upgrade to the RetraxPro and was quoted $990ish shipped.

Yes, I was getting both water and tons of dust.

Part A - After some driving on some washboard dirt roads in Eastern Washington where there is still a fair amount of Mt Saint Helens volcanic ash, the back part of my bed was full of dust and it got all over my stuff. Also, the Retrax mounting blocks (part V) and ¼-28 bolts (part Y) stripped out. If found one of the mounting blocks loose in the bed, that is how I discovered this. I retapped the mounting block with a ¼-28 tap and replaced the ¼-28 bolt, nut, and washer with a stainless ones. That worked, I now can ensure that it is snug. I do have a warranty claim in with Realtruck for replacing those parts.

Part B – I put in some MD Auto and Marine Rubber Weaththerseal + Frost King Air Conditioner Weatherseal. I used two sided tape on the top with the Frost King. I just wedged it in the lower corner. I had some of the MD Small, I have replaced some of that with the large which I would recommend. I am pretty sure a lot of the water and dust was coming in around the lower corners of the tailgate.

After another trip to Eastern Washington last weekend, no dust! After washing the truck, minimal water. Not sure it will be possible to keep all water out. I am going to test it in the rain tomorrow.
