I was planning on buying the BAK Revolver X4S for my TRD Pro that should be being built this week. I was on RoughCountry.com and saw that they had a Hard Roll Up cover and it's about half the price of the BAK. I'm just wondering if it is worth or not to save the money and go with the Rough Country one? Curious what everyone's thoughts are on both products?

I tried searching the forum but there wasn't a whole lot out there on this subject.

I have a X4S. It’s meh, at best. I like how it’s hard and rolls up. But massive water intrusion on the side rails, see my previous post on my profile about it.

I contacted Bak, who has been great when it comes to sending out replacements parts etc, but they’ve strung me along for nearly 4 months now on how they are going to “re-engineer” the rails as they have admitted they have about 10 other complaints of the same issue.

Fast forward 4 months, they haven’t re-engineered the rails, and they claim they can’t reproduce the issue.

The issue is that the side rails do not overlap your OEM plastic bed cap covers. So there isn’t much of a seal. You’re relying on a fitment of about 1/8” of an inch. And their method of attaching the side rails of the X4S do not account for any type of overlap. I think I just need to spend time getting weather stripping and attach it from the underside. Still disappointing for nearly $1400

For what it’s worth, I suspect most if not all rough country covers are produced in the same factory. The own Bak now.

My take away as an Engineer for my day job, they definitely designed the adapter rails on the X4S with a “good enough” mentality. Literally if they just made the lip of the rail 1/4” wider, it would be 100% solved. Someone didn’t account for that, and it’s odd that they don’t see it as an issue

Edit: The only reason I chose Bak was because of their 5 year warranty. But at the end of the day, their product is by no means worth the double. I believe they price it this way to cover the costs if/when they warranty the item.

I have a trifold from rough country that is 700$ and if flips up like the bakflip. There’s small cavets that I’d change but I think I’d have that with bakflip too. Rough country has great customer service and a great return policy. Try it out if you don’t like it return it.
