Tail Gate Assist (SR5) ?

SR5, I also do not have the tail gate damper/assist.

very noticeable too having gotten used to my 2021 tailgate on the 3rd gen. Just unlatch and drop.

info like that the tailgate locks with the doors, but this is an oversight in my opinion.

Has anyone found the part number for that tailgate assist? I have an SR and I don't have tailgate assist on it. It would be nice to stick with an OEM part. I want a power lock too while I'm at it.

Hi All. I'm a new member who just purchased an SR5 without the "easy lower" tailgate. I've been trying to figure this out. There's a strut inside the fender well that attaches to the outboard hinge on the driver's side. Part #PT767-35240. There is an arm that attaches to the lower end of the strut to the outboard hinge. I can't figure out the part #. Maybe Part #68961-0C080? You can see both from below on a TRD Sport or TRD OR. I pulled the tail light on my truck and don't see the attachment point for the top of the strut. The hinge part number appears to be the same for all part numbers but the bushing looks different (mine has a metal cover but the TRD Sport is all rubber). It might be an easy retrofit if we can figure out the part numbers. I'm giving up until I get a chance to pull the tail light on a higher trim model or get my hands on a shop manual.

Been trying to figure this out myself . That part number you mentioned though comes back to Truck Bed Cargo Divider (PT767-35240).

I bought a generic tailgate assist for a 23 it might work but the strut is 10” extended we need 12” . The rest of the hardware seems compatible. I was going to order an open eye 12” strut to see it’ll work .

I’d prefer to do what you are trying to accomplish. Are the parts you are referring to # 6 and 7 on the attachment ? Does this link help find the correct parts ? These pics are 6 and 7.

The correct part # for the strut is 66140-AK020 (#6) in the diagram. I copied the wrong part # from my notes. The possible arm is #7. It does not look like the arm but the part diagrams can be way off based on past experience.

Are you going to order 6 and 7 and give it a shot ? You think those are the only parts needed ? The smaller parts are cheap enough might be worth just ordering both . I’m still lost as to where everything mounts to .

Wow. My SR5 absolutely has a damper and opens slowly.

This helps now we know the right part #s. What I don’t understand is where or how the support assembly mounts to the tailgate ?

It shows you in the picture here.... It looks like two ball joints held on with clips, just like topper rear hatch struts. The only question is if the non-equipped tailgates and body panels have the ball equipped from the factory. Probably should pop the light off and check first
