looks like it hasn't been said yet....
I believe only the sr5's with the upgrade package have the open slow dampened tailgate....
We’ve figured that out . Now we want to know if it’s possible to put the support on the ones without ?
I didn’t see it listed as part of it, but I do indeed have the upgrade pkg.
The different SR5 trims is so funky on these .

I’m willing to spend the $100 in parts but by looking at my rear light and tailgate. I see where it mounts behind the with a ball joint but don’t see how the support feeds behind the light and attaches to the tailgate .

Can one of you guys with the support take some pics of how it’s mounted to the tailgate and the rear light . I almost think it may be a different style tailgate required or light .

Thanks, GreatWhiteNorth. This is really helpful. We now know that Part #6 attaches the top pf the strut to the body. There is a threaded insert on my base SR5. I'm still not sure how the bottom of the strut attached to the hinge. Neither the parts diagram or shop manual shows the arm. Maybe its included with the strut as part of the "assembly?"

So also pulled my light off to take a peak . I see where the top ball stud goes and support feeds down to tailgate . There is a slot in the hinge that some part has to go into to connect the support/strut to. That’s the unknown part but I think I found it . Hinge Sub-Assy, Tail Gate End Post, Left Hand 66102-AK020

I’m going to order 4,6 and 7 and see what I get . Worst case I return the parts.

Got 2 out of the 3 parts for the tail gate assist . The support assembly 66140-AK011 is on back order but NUCAR TOYOTA OF NORTH ATTLEBORO located a few in CA and I should have it next week . Reach out to them if you are looking for the back ordered part.

Goog job. That should have been on every Taco without the power tailgate, just like they all should have at least pigtails for the trailer brake controller. I don't remember Toyota being so cheap with their trucks in the past.

Thank you! I have followed and book marked this tread since day one. This is the one upgrade I wanted out of all I have done.

Question - how do you rate the difficulty of the install?

Knocked it out in 20 minutes w/ help of wife . I couldn’t and didn’t really try to remove the plug that’s connected to the truck . Just laid the gate at an angle on the bed and had the wife hold the other end . Pop the hinge on first then you can put the gate back on . Adjust the circled part to the correct angle so it lines up with the gate pin then slide the right side back on . The rest was plug and play ,

I could not believe when I bought my 2020 SR EXT w/o remote entry that the Passenger side door did NOT have a key lock to open. The doors had Electric locks - but without the Remote access pkg I had to ALWAYS enter from the Drivers door. What a PITA !!! 5 years I put up with walking up to the truck from the passenger side with my hands full, only to have to walk around to the Drivers side door, open it, open the E Lock and then walk back to the passenger's door to open and put/retrieve what I wanted on the passenger side seat/floor. AAARRRGGG !!!! My #1 Complain with that vehicle !!!!

When Toyota was an underdog in the car/truck market they had to try harder and give every vehicle they built a lot of features. Now that they are the top dog I guess they have abandoned that. Over the years I have watched a steady stream of decontenting withToyota products from entry level to the very top, and that seems short sighted to me.

But then what do I know? I keep on buying them and Toyota keeps on making more and more money.

I need to look into this so I can remove the stupid electronic part of the tailgate, I’d like to close it myself, but I think mine has the damper on it so maybe I can just remove the motor
