Just thought I would share. A few years ago when I had my 2nd gen we had a family emergency that required me to be somewhere quickly. I got in the truck and no go. Battery was toast. I did not want that to ever happen again so at the time I installed a trickle charger. As I don’t drive long distances and do a fair bit of stop and go driving, I decided I would install the same charger in my 24. It only charges at 800 mA but it’s enough to keep things comfortable for me and give me peace of mind. It was about a half hour job.

I have trickle charger connectors on all my bikes and one some cars that weren't driven on regular basis. What was the reason for installing the trickle charger on the apron, wouldn't it be easier leave the trickle charger outside the vehicle and just plug it in?

Just personal preferance I guess. This one is quite compact and out of the way. I don’t always park in the same place and did not want to carry the charger from place to place. For me this works out perfectly.

The heat from the engine is going to kill that trickle charger fast. Consider installing one of these in the bodywork somewhere, and plugging the back fulltime into the battery. Then you can just plug in your charger externally to the vehicle.

I have a more robust one on my motorcycle and boat, but they are made in Germany- I'm looking for the link. Will post when I find it.

Got those pigtails on every bike battery and pretty much anything that does not see regular use. Didn't think about the trickle charger overheating but thats a good point to keep in mind.

I mean inside the hood is cool for keeping it dry (sorta, not under my hood) but I'm not a fan of random cables hanging out of the bodywork.

Thanks everyone for the comments and advice. I had this same charger in my 2 nd gen for 8 years and never had an issue. True- the new 4 cyl with turbo may generate a bit more heat but I will try this and see how it goes. I don’t anticipate any problems where it is mounted based on previous experience but I guess we shall see.

I’ve had one on my 67 chevelle for about 10 years mounted right next to the battery and about 18 inches from the right bank headers.. still working fine
