I had mine sprayed with Fluid Film last week. I’m in Canada so I needed some sort of undercoating. I was told by multi mechanics that this is the way to go. It creeps but also sticks well and safe on everything. It’s more expensive then oil so not a lot of places use it but seems much better then oil based.
What he says 👍

I’m in Canada. Definitely want to do a Krown, Rust Check, Fluid Film, or Wool Wax treatment to undercarriage. Vehicle was ‘rustproofed’ by dealer (in panels) but not underneath! TOYOTA has told dealers the HYBRID models would NOT be covered by warranty if any HYBRID related component failed if there was undercoating of ANY kind present! This sucks!! (Toyota says undercoating the NON hybrid models is fine)
Never heard of this non warranty stuff

Spoke to my dealer. He said, technically corporate Toyota would say don’t under spray. If damage is caused by under spray it wouldn’t be covered by warranty. I guess you would then be stuck arguing with them about what may or may not have caused potential damage.

He said, in the real world though, you want to do something. He said Krown which is petroleum based can be hard on rubber parts. I think Krown has said they have changed their product to be less corrosive to rubber parts?? He recommended a more synthetic product like RustBlock.

Anyone have any opinions….Krown vs RustBlock?

edit: the local RustBlock place says they are now using Corrosion Defence. Same company as RustBlock, still synthetic but flows better than RustBlock. He said it’s still not as thin as Krown.

They claim their synthetic product is easier on rubber components then Krown.

I went to Line-X and they used a product called Valugard. They gave a lifetime warranty.

It's a really simple job to diy. If you can make mac & cheese, you can do this.

A can of fluid film will cost you between $50 and $60 USD. Woolwax will cost you $65 and is probably the better product.

Both are largely identical: sheep gravy juice you spray on the frame and in the nooks and crannies.

I bought a spray gun kit for $105, used a cheap 3 gal 2.6cfm pancake compressor.

Entire truck done in 3 hours including covering everything above the rocker panel with a drop sheet to limit overspray.

Total one-time cost was $155.

I used about 3 quarts to do the truck.

Next year, will likely only need 1/2 gallon so ongoing cost is $30/yr.

I just used jackstands to get under it.

I spoke directly with the service manager at my Toyota dealership and they told me undercoating (oil, fluid film, so on) wouldn’t negatively impact the hybrid nor would it have an impact on warranty. They even offer undercoating. Now the Hyundai dealership where my wife bought her hybrid said it would void warranty if undercoating was used and there was an associated issue, so take it for what you will.
