Hey folks, anyone have to replace their windshield yet? 21,000kms and it's time already for me to replace 😡😡😡

I heard the only aftermarket one available doesn't seal correctly?

What did y'all pay. Insurance won't cover it for me and this will be completely out of pocket.

I originally wanted to go aftermarket because I'm highly annoyed with how weak Toyota glass is.

Paid about $1000 out of pocket for the windshield, replacement, and recalibration. That was at a local shop (had to order the windshield from the dealership). Safelite was like $1900 out of pocket.

I have a $500 deductible on insurance, but didn't want to have a claim, so I just paid the extra $500 and had it done myself.

Ouch!! $1900 is absolutely insane, recalibration or not. I'm assuming this is all in USD too? Wild man.

The local windshield guy here can't even find an aftermarket for me, looks like I have to get a dealer quote. If I'm going to pay that much though I'll drive her until I literally can't see out of the windshield anymore.

Yes, USD.

That was early May too, so prices may have changed one way or another. At that time, there was no other option than OEM glass, but I would rather have it anyways (even if it is a little more prone to cracking). Took about 8 weeks to get the glass in.

Yeah they couldn't find aftermarket for me but OEM installed I was quoted $1200 CAD and that's installed in my driveway, horrible, but much better than I expected lol

I wish I could say this but it's just from living in Alberta and owning a Toyota lol. Rock chips ain't uncommon up this way and especially on any Toyota's I've owned, some weak glass these guys use. Last chip that did me in was on a dirt road caused by another truck and a boulder probably the weight of my max payload if that counts for anything 🤣

I picked up my TD sport on April 1. On April 9, a dump truck, threw a rock and cracked the windshield. I am still waiting for a replacement, which my insurance is covering. I’m intrigued by those who say they’ve had theirs replaced. Safelite is still telling me that it is not available. I am going to probe further…

Going forward, ask you auto insurrance company if they offer a "full glass" rider to your Comprehensive coverage. It's only a couple of bucks more per year (and I mean just a couple) and it covers windshield replacement with no deductible, and if used it doesn't count as a "claim" against your policy and against your rates (so I was told).

If the company does not offer "full glass" comp coverage, consider lowing your Comprehensive deductible to say $250 or even -0- (as I had for a few years). You'd be surprise how little that costs per year relative to a $1,900 bill. Actually another question I did not ask but should have is whether I have to use the insurance company's glass company. I guess it wouldn't matter as they'd have to cover any post-install problems anyway.

I'm in a tricky situation with insurance companies haha. I've been paying out of the ass ever sense I was a "new" driver and I've had a cancellation (at fault of my former bank, not that they'd ever take responsibility or that it would even make a difference with the insurance company) in the last 5 years so trying to find an insurance company that'll cover me on a monthly payment basis is near impossible let alone trying to find one that'll charge me less than $450 a month. So I had to lower all my liabilities and comprehensives AND take off all glass coverage. Therefore royaly screwing me if I was to ever have to replace a window in the truck lol.

I think to add limited glass coverage the the best insurance company I could find it was near $80 extra a month and that's without windshield coverage which was substantially more a month.

Insurance coverages is wild in Canada, or maybe it's just me, with no tickets, claims and one cancellation but I've always had it up the rear when it comes to auto insurance.

the glass place i used had a oem windshield in a week
When was this? I'm in a more remote part of Canada so a bigger lead time will always make sense but I was quoted a month wait

Grr, a couple days old? I'm mad for you lol. I'd be fuming. Atleast I had a couple small fillable chips over the 7-8 months to prepare me for the end all be all crater. I was pretty emotionaless when it happened, just more or a "yep, I'm not even surprised" reaction and I got out to wipe the loose glass off lol.

That's a long while to be waiting though.. I'd be long after going ham on my insurance company, I was only given a month's lead time for the OEM glass straight from the dealer and I live fairly remote.
