I used AI to identify the VINs of unsold trucks. What I did was use the KissMyGrits downloads, loaded them, and had ChatGPT compare them against the VIN list on the TSB, instructing it to look for a match or numerically lower values. As always, I make no claim to the accuracy.

UPDATE: I deleted the old table and have attached an updated excel file you can download

The total number of matching VINs is 4,853 as of 10/25/24. Here is the breakdown by model:

  • SR5: 3,017
  • TRD Sport: 1,021
  • TRD Off-Road: 282
  • SR: 181
  • Hybrid TRD Sport: 114
  • Hybrid TRD Off-Road: 111
  • Limited: 55
  • Trailhunter: 31
  • Hybrid Limited: 27
  • TPR: 8
  • TRD Pro: 6

Couldn't we just count the serial number range? Isnt it ordered?

Well, if they mean a warning message along with shifting issues then, yes, that would be correct. But the transmission will store codes and that have to be present to replace it.

It's not 1/2 a percent of what's been sold so far, and the surprise to me is mine made in June and delivered July 15 is not in the VIN range. I assumed most would be sold through already.
True but 5,000 is a large number of customers no matter which way you look at it

I honestly don't think Toyota nor Aisin really know which units have debris. That's why you see such a wide range.

I'm in the affected VINs, but haven't had any trans issues as of 6500 miles. I've had what I would call a lurch in the mornings from P to R, but running strong as of now.

This is around 5000 out of a total inventory of 18000. As always, I make no claim to the accuracy.

I don’t know why they aren’t offering to at least drop the pan on all these trucks and change out the filter and fluid and inspect for debris

It may be 5000 in the ser# range but as stated above they have to have had the transmission throwing the codes before they are demented needing to be replaced, and that number is far less.
