Yeah - iPods, as useful as they are have become stone age tech these days. I think my music files were corrupted when I got my last phone and I need to erase the files and reload them soon. Still would rather just plug in the trusty iPod.

CarPlay has been fantastic in mine. I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max and the truck has JBL audio. No disconnections or anything and everything has worked as expected. Better, actually. It’s been a significant improvement over my 3rd gen.

i got super annoyed when my android auto went to shit.. it was either cutting out all the time, or it would show that it was playing but i got zero audio.

i said, "fuck this" and cancelled all the subscriptions in the toyta app and decided i'd just plug my phone in -- but then AA started working wirelessly, flawlessly.

I used to drive a Honda Accord and after a couple years, CarPlay started failing. In my or our case as I will explain. Honda switched from Alpine to Clarion headunits. Clarion went out of business, so whenever Apple pushed an update, the headunit wouldn't know what to do with it. It started with the system slowing down and as updates continued to push, it got to the point to where anytime I plugged in my phone, the entire Infotainment system would shut down, which meant, no audio, no navigation and actually my entire dash illumination failed which meant at night, I couldn't see how fast I was going.

Curious, I found a Honda forum and found I wasn't alone. Doing more research, I found that every Honda vehicle from that generation which was 2016-2018 had the same issue and Odyssey owners had successfully sued Honda. I tried to get Accord user to start a class, but they overwhelming felt Honda wouldn't let them down.

After about 9 month, I decided to sell the car and buy something else. Here is what happened. Honda waited antil the warranty period was up on all those vehicles, then sent letters to owners advising their car was out of warranty and despite being aware of the headunit issues, the only option Honda had was for you to bring your car in, and have a patch applied for $250 (A patch that was already outdated as Apple had already pushed a new IOS)

I will also tell you that I had been in contact with both Honda and Apple for more than a year. Both said it was the other problem. Apple said they provide a platform, but it's the car makers responsibility to ensure it remains stable and Honda said less as I'm sure they were bound by an NDA, but they did say, they were working with Apple engineering for a solution.

I read someone posted to delete the software or app and reinstall. That only works if the issue is a glitch in the software, if many of you are having this issue, I wouldn't sit on your hands.I was lucky and smart to dump my car, but thousands of Honda owners took pipe to the backdoor because they couldn't imagine Honda letting them down.

I write software for a living and I am pretty sure this is software problem, but it is tough to figure out which part(s) are to blame. Of course Toyota will say it's Apple, they would say the reverse and we are stuck in the middle with no real way to fix this kind of stuff ourselves.

I'm a cloud engineer, so like yourself, I have some insights. Personally, I don't think Apple knows what they are doing. For a platform that is in it's 10th year, it's still problematic. Android Auto doesn't have these issues. Next Gen CarPlay is also 2 years behind as Apple originally publicized a 2023 release.

At the end of the day, Apple doesn't care. Remember how bad Apple Maps was? Apple does what they do and they don't apologize.

CarPlay is a solid product when it works, but when it doesn't... good luck getting support.

The company I work for now, might be Apple's largest partner and we can't even call them by name. We refer to them as "Fruit Stand". If I were that paranoid about negativity associated with my name or brand, I would certainly put out a more superior product.

Yep - Apple software leaves a lot to be desired at this point. Every new iOS update seems to bring some new problem and they fix stuff when they feel like it - customers be damned. If I had to guess who is at fault with Carplay issues my choice would be Apple too.

I have a 2023 RAV4 Hybrid LE and a 2024 Tacoma SR 4WD Xtracab and the RAV4 CarPlay is horrible. I would think the update would fix some of the issues but I don’t see one. For example the Gen4 Tacoma has a set of double arrow symbol pointing NE at top of symbol and SW at bottom of symbol to expand the screen menu. The RAV4 you have to use the mode on the steering wheel to get from radio to CarPlay. Also the RAV4 will just cut out and you have to add the phone back and there is only the one Bluetooth device. So I plug the phone into the jack that connects straight to radio and it works without Bluetooth. In the Tacoma that Jack is near dash above glovebox on side of radio.

They are definitely an arrogant partner to work with. They push their problems off on their suppliers, partners and customers. That said Toyota, like another poster highlighted about Honda, stopped supporting the system/software they released with the 2017 JBL units.

Zero issues except occasionally it doesn’t want to connect but when I start truck again it does. Happens rarely. About 7K miles.
