33s and Drivability

To those who have 33s on their non-hybrid Taco, how is the truck handling the added mass? I know the previous gen trucks took a pretty big hit to the drivability after upgrading to bigger tires. Does the added torque with the new engine help offset the difference or is it still a pretty big downgrade with regards to acceleration, braking, etc?

I upgraded my sport wheels and tires to a much heavier 33” tire. Drivability is just about the same. Maybe a little more sluggish off the line but hardly noticeable. Once I’m moving it’s not really noticeable at all and braking seems mostly unchanged.

Put Nokian Outpost NAT’s 285/70r17’s (46lbs) on factory TRD wheels. I have about 3k miles on em now, really haven’t noticed a drivability difference? Been a lot of snow, cold, idling, driving about 1/2 the time in 4hi, and winter blend fuel, so the mpg hit is unknown? Summer I was getting 21-22, now 17-19.

I'm sure there is a measurable performance drop, but not significantly so. The truck doesn't feel sluggish by any means, but it's also NOT a sports car, so it wasn't exactly throwing you back in your seat to begin with. I still feel the extra torque when the turbo spools up, and the truck is still plenty fast for normal, everyday driving. You won't be holding up traffic if that's what you're concerned about. I'm on a fairly heavy setup in particular (somewhere between 90-100 lbs per wheel), and I'm definitely seeing a hit on my fuel mileage more than anything.

What are you running if you don’t mind me asking … just curious because 90-100 is pretty heavy .

KO3s 275/70R18 (~60lbs) wheels (~33lbs)… they’re definitely some heavy tires, but they’re stout! I’d have gone for SL tires, but I really wanted these KO3s, and unfortunately, they still don’t make em lightweight… possibly later this year, maybe.

I am holding myself back on some pizza cutters. 255/80/R17 until I know for sure I can do so without mods and use my steel wheels. I like the steel.

The mpg hit isn’t awful actually, maybe 2-3. If youre doing a ton of driving though, it adds up quick, so I get it!

My 25 Off-road Premium with +25 Black Rhino Rivals and 285/70-17 c load ridge grapplers rides and drives beautifully. The RGs are a great all around tire, quiet on the highway. I’m getting ~17.5-18.5mpg in mixed city and highway, generally about 285-300 miles per tank. I also have the Westcott precollar lift, which was on the truck when I bought it. While it looks good, I don’t care for the ride and, I think that impacts mpg, too. It’s coming off soon.
