I have to tow a 5x8 U-Haul Sunday. Trying to sort through how to do this with all the tech on the truck (TRD Pro). I’ve only ever done the hook the trailer up and go method. I’m guessing I can go in anytime and set the trailer up in the settings? Do I have to turn something off when actually backing up to the trailer? Once connected I go into settings and tell it the trailer is connected? Activate tow-haul mode? Any wisdom would help! 😂

Go into the settings menu and disengage the PKBS button, otherwise the truck won’t let you back up close enough to hitch it!

to set up the trailer length etc was pretty easy

to set the straight line backup mode, you need a lot of space, like an empty parking lot

Ok thanks! I was wondering if the automatic trailer detection would make it unnecessary to have to disable other features. Guess not!

With the u-haul trailers there's not much to worry about. They use surge brakes along with the 4-pin connector, so aside from disabling the emergency braking, just hook up and haul. You won't have to worry about adjusting the brake controller or anything like that.

Is the emergency braking the PKBS?

Correct, I believe that's the acronym. It's the one that triggers when reversing. Huge PITA and I just leave mine off as I tow relatively frequently. First few times hooking up I probably looked like a fool when the truck stopped on a dime and rocked back and forth. lol

Ok! I'll try to avoid that 😂. I have a Yakima hitch rack for our bikes. Imagine I'll have to shut it off when I hook that up as well.

Maybe, depends on whether the rack / bikes block any of the sensors. Nevertheless, given that your bike rack sticks out, the emergency reverse braking probably won't do much for you as it would probably trigger after contact, hah.

I just hook it up and go… When the screen pops is asking if you have a trailer hit Yes. Same when I unhook. When it ask if the trailer is NOT there hit yes again.

So you don’t shut PKBS off?
