I completely agree that these trucks should all have the giant underhood noise-reduction pad; well, maybe it would have been excusable to leave it off the SR model. In that rev range, this is the worst-sounding engine, including '80s diesel cars, that I can ever recall. And I'm an old guy. I'm considering ponying up the several HUNDRED dollars for the Toyota hood pad. I believe I read somewhere that the manual tranny trucks do not have the speaker-generated noise canceling function, so my truck may actually sound worse than the 99% that are automatics!

Thanks, I'll check it out! Has anyone already tried this Amazon/Nonsense-name mat to see if it reduces the noise much and if it appears to be high quality? It has zero reviews as of now. Also, it claims to provide both sound and heat insulation, which makes sense, but is there any risk of excess heat underhood caused by the mat? I suppose not since Toyota installs their own mat on certain models.
