Awesome find! I’m on my phone and this doc is huge. Anything interesting on the hybrid here?

It indicates the load capacities for the hybrid models:
1200lbs for short bed non-Trailhunter
1215lbs for short bed Trailhunter
1245lbs for long bed.

That's a bit disappointing. I think a lot of us were hoping for a bit higher capacity.

It also confirms that if you're using the AC inverter, the engine will start/stop as needed to charge the battery. This was demonstrated on the X Overland video too.

MVP right here for finding the important stats.

And you're right. I was hoping in the 1500-1700lb range. Figure a Smart Cap and RTT is going to eat up around 300l-350lbs of that. Add a 50L fridge freezer and you're now pushing over 400lbs before you've accounted for gear, food, water, you, the dog...

What happened to 1700? From Car and Driver: "The hybrid iForce Max is capped at a 6000-pound tow rating can carry a payload of up to 1709 pounds. The nonhybrid Tacoma tows slightly more with a 6500-pound maximum, but its payload capacity drops by four pounds."

If there's not something missing here that's a pretty big bummer.

In another thread someone remarked (paraphrase) that the Trailhunter is already coming with upgraded bumpers and armor, things that are already taken into account in the payload rating. I think it's a good point that bears repeating.

Still is lower and I'd have hoped for a larger gas tank, too but I suppose that federalizing that would have been a PITA given the shared platform across gas and hybrid options. Hopefully LRA has something in the works.

Sure, it's not a terrible payload for a midsize truck already fitted with armor (to compare, Colorado ZR2 has 1280 and the ZR2 Bison has 1050), but the Trailhunter actually has slightly higher payload numbers than the other hybrids. A 1709 max payload was claimed to come with the hybrids by the automotive press and on the press release still up on many Toyota dealership websites on their Tacoma pages.

Lower payloads were expected for the Pro and Trailhunter due to the added armor, but now, the base number for the hybrids is over 500 pounds less than that original claim and the Trailhunter is slightly more. 1709 is such a specific number (although Toyota's press release issued Nov 28 claimed "while its maximum payload increases on the new model to 1,710 lbs. for i-FORCE Max models.") so it's not like this is a case of them throwing out a vague ballpark number and being a little off, they were off by 509/510 lbs on a very specific number.

It is what it is at this point, maybe the actual vehicle weights will come in a little lower allowing for a bit more payload (I believe this may have been the case with Tundra?) but for those of us who have had deposits down and have been holding off on a purchase for nearly a year based on the info available, this is pretty disappointing. Maybe there will be a pleasant surprise in fuel economy numbers or MSRP to balance this out...

@North all good points.

in the overall the trucks are still pretty capable. Wish the seats were better…

But the level of moaning is bordering on absurd.

We all waited and anticipated and hoped it would be the perfect, ultimate factory overlanding rig because we all figured Toyota would listen to us, the enthusiasts and give us what we wanted. Toyota got it pretty damned right so far. There’s always going to be shortcomings.

But some people are acting like we got Jar Jar Binks’ed.

It’s not hard to see Toyota Payload numbers are BS. The entire web is filled with people weighting their Tundra and finding out the payload sticker is hundreds of pounds away from reality.
It’s already been demonstrated twice for the new tacoma including by TFL (sticker says 1200, after weighting and doing GVWR-weight it was more than that).

Another proof that Toyota payload numbers are BS:
TRD Offroad non hybrid GVWR: 6735 lbs
Trailhunter hybrid GVWR: 6835 lbs
Trailhunter has 100lbs more GVWR, and about the same 1200lbs payload. This is impossible. The trailhunter has hundreds of pounds of steel plates, rockers, rear steel bumper, snorkerl, hybrid battery and system, accessories, packages, over the TRD Offroad.

Toyota is probably the only manufacturer incapable to figure out their payload. Somehow all their trucks no matter how configured has about 1200lbs payload.
Laughable.

While I generally agree that Toyota is being super conservative with their payload values, your TRD OR value above is for the hybrid. The non-hybrid is just 6240lbs from what I've seen on the door stickers thread. So you gain 495lbs on the GVWR which probably just covers the weight of the hybrid components, larger wheel/tire package, and additional cross member.

correct I mixed up the number with non hybrid but the point is exactly the same: explain why the TRD OR Hybrid and Trailhunter have the same payload if the Trailhunter has 100lbs more GVWR but has hundreds of lbs more of curb weight (steel plates, steel rockers, steel bumper, Premium package including sunroof, snorkel, bigger tires…)?

The weird thing is, according to the manual, the Trailhunter actually has slightly higher payload than the other hybrids. Yes, the OME suspension is optimized for heavier loads, which is probably why you don't see a big drop on the Trailhunter, but it has a lot of added weight over the Off Road and Sport. I never expected the Trailhunter to hit that max claimed 1709 pound payload (the chief engineer said as much in his interview with TFL), but the strange thing to me is that the other hybrids are now coming in much lower than originally claimed. That's why I'm still holding out hope that the actual weight to GVW ratio is better than the manual states.

Btw, the first person who gets a hybrid needs to hit a CAT scale.

Also, is a full tanks of gas part of vehicle capacity weight?

Also the web build and price linked specs says
Payload of 1425lbs Trailhunter long boi
* Payload includes the weight of occupants, cargo and options and is limited by weight distribution
