This is really common in most Toyotas. I had a Tundra with a 26.5 gallon tank. Even driving it after the low fuel warning and after the gauge showed no gas remaining, the most I was able to put into that tank was around 21 gallons.

So you can drive a lot further than your truck indicates, but by then you have no idea how much is really left. As many have said, it is a reserve to protect your fuel pump, which can overheat unless it is submerged.

I’ve only had this hybrid TRD Pro for a month but… following this thread I have to say that it’s pretty jackassy on Toyotas part to not give you an accurate reading of your fuel quantity and range. Whatever excuses are out there. It’s just stupid. I fly airplanes. My fuel gage is accurate or there’s big problems. Anybody that takes these things off the grid better bring fuel. I’m averaging 14.4 mph and 250 ish range. This truck is a bust
